The stand pipe connects the high pressure oil rail to the branch tubes. Branch tubes come from high pressure oil pump. The high pressure oil rails can be swapped from one side to the other. To do that, they use a dummy plug tht is removable.

thanks. is there a reason to change sides? Should upgrades be done if you get to the point of having to remove them?

You hav to remove the oil rail to get to the injectors, once removed the standpipes should be replaced because the seals on them can fail and the new ones have a teflon backer for the orings so they are alot less likely to fail, same with the dummy plugs, they are upgraded as well with the teflon backer because the orings on them can fail and cause a Hot no start condition.
