Fuel additive

Hey,

Just wondering what type of fuel additive I can add when I fuel up. Help keep the pump lubricated. Maybe help clean the injectors a bit.

My uncle told me last night that my grandfather used to add half a quart of ATF oil each fill up, and it always ran perfectly and kept everything clean. Not really sure if that's a good idea.

Let me know what you guys use, or what is recommended.

Thanks

Corbin

Personally I am not a fan of burning ATF...it was never designed to burn.

Here is a good link...

x2!

I'm a fan of, and run only, Stanadyne Performance additive.

When I was back at a parts store we sold tons of Diesel Kleen

Eddiebuntain 05-17-2012 12:56 PM

Stanadyne makes good stuff, I hear good things about Rev-x, I'd avoid atf just because it tints your fuel red and the DOT might think you've been running off road fuel.:w2::c:

I use DIESEL KLEEN and also have used 2stroke oil. the Kleen iv only heard good things about it and you can get it at walmart its priced good. but you can get it els where as well. I use it all the time on my 96. My buddy uses Stanadyne on his duramax but thats what hes hurd to be the best for his truck. But for Dodge all I hear is use Kleen :tu:

I run home made biodiesel most of the time and don't add anything to it. BUT, when I'm on a trip and have to buy pump diesel I always use DK at the recommended 1:400 ratio (1 ounce per every 3 gallons fuel). May not make much difference, but I figure its cheap lube "insurance" for my IP...

A friend at a shop told me to use Rislone 2 step fuel system treatment to clean out the fuel system and injectors. Was told to only use on bottle, as it's only once every 5000 miles because of the cleaning agent. I'll run a few tanks to let this additive completely gone, then I will run Diesel Kleen. From what I hear from the forum, and recommendations I will be running that additive. My truck's got 560 000 kms and want to keep it for a long time.

From what I can find on the forum, and reading your posts and previous post, it's worth the couple of dollars to put the additive to keep the pump lubricated, and injectors will stay cleaner as well.

Thanks for your recommendations.

Greatly appreciated.

Opti-lube 06-25-2013 11:43 AM

Opti-Lube XPD is a great product for lubrication, cetane boost and cleaning. I hope you have the opportunity to try our product.

I used to run it in my '99 5.2L magnum 4x4 and a '98 5.9L Jeep. With good results

Guess you & I are the only people that ran acetone:humm:

drakeremoray 09-13-2013 12:11 AM

I run Opti. Have not had really any problems. XPD now and then to give it a kick in the pants and then summer formula the rest of the time.

gunman41mag 09-16-2013 06:36 AM

I used acetone on my 99 7.3 F-250, but I wouldn't use it on my 2008 6.4 F-250:nope:

CountryGirl91 09-16-2013 07:05 AM

I use Stanadyne. If I don't have that, I use the two-stroke oil. They have both helped alot with the injector problems I have/had.

I love the power service diesel kleen

CheesyEVO 10-12-2013 04:55 AM

Diesel Kleen every Oil change should do you well to keep the pump lubed and injectors fresh. I have used it in all of my trucks and diesel toys. Too much is not a good thing either but I believe Diesel Kleen is safe in a Cummins by the label.

Never a rebuild...but I change the OIL and filter (prefill mine please) more frequent than others might. I mix my oil 1:2; 1 synthetic to 2 Normal HD Rotella.

AugustinaAlley 10-18-2013 11:39 PM

I used Rev x too. its great i guess.

Hagan425 11-17-2013 10:06 AM

What about Lucas oil tune up in a bottle and injector cleaner. I'm a truck driver and a lot of truckers live by this stuff they even fill the fuel bowl with it when changing fuel filters , I've ran it in all my diesels ( powerstrokes cummins ) I now own a d max lb7 first d max what is good for it? I planned on using Lucas oil but didn't know if it was the best for the lb7 ????

DalilaFetter 12-12-2013 12:55 AM

DalilaFetter 12-27-2013 03:51 AM

i am too curious to know the results but here none is aware of its proper use .. hopefully soon something will turn in favour
