Running 100% Alternative Fuel In A 1983/84 8.2 Dodge Detroit Diesel in an RV

Hello,

I have a 1983/84 8.2 Dodge Detroit Diesel in an RV.

Has anyone simply poured Waste Vegetable Oil , Used Motor Oil, Used Automatic Transmission Fluid straight into the tank without using any in-line heaters, different injectors, etc? I would put a couple of finer micron inline fuel filters for sure. ALL of the traveling/driving is going to be taking place in a really warm climate.

Does anyone see any issues with this?

If not, what size micron filters would you use?

Some people have. I've also seen people hit their thumbs with hammers, but it usually doesn't end well.

Some of those are OK, but you can NOT run WVO without a two tank heated setup IMO. Where are you located? I can put you in contact with a few people who could help you convert that to run on WVO though with a good heated two tank setup.

Filters would plug right up no matter what in that with WVO.

Hello,

Thank you so much! I am located in South Florida in the West Palm Beach area.

The warmer climate will surely make it easier to run alt fuels, I would still use a two tank system though. You do not want to be pushing WVO with your stock fuel pump and through the stock filters. You would also need to ensure you have a good supply of oil, and a good way to filter/dewater it when you collect it.

You can sign up on WVO Diesel Conversion | SVO Grease Conversion | Ford Vegistroke Powerstroke | Biodiesel Conversion for more info on WVO and systems for conversion.

Thanks! Do you have any contacts in Florida?

I know a couple guys who run the vegistroke system that live in Florida. I'm sure if you were close they wouldn't mind letting you check out their setup to get some ideas. Sign up on that site I posted earlier, and just start reading, TONS of info. It's geared towards the 7.3 and 6.0 powerstroke, but there is tons of general info about running a two tank system.

you would probably be fine with running a 50/50 blend of diesel and wmo and i would make it the wmo a 50/50 blend of atf and waste engine oils. I would also make sure i had a really good water separator and a couple of good filters down to 2 microns. then you should probebly be fine, especially since its and older engine that ran on fuel that was probebly thicker anyways

He's asking about 100% alt fuel though. I wonder what one's carbon footprint is running 50% WMO or ATF? :humm: Can't be good!:pca1:

Well 50% is a good start without heating it, its really gonna depend on what type of injection system his motor has. And if you think about it, your some what recycling by burning it and saving money at the same time so who really gives a shit. the oil has to go somewhere

Mdub707 03-20-2012 07:29 AM

I'd hardly call that recycling. If I took all of my plastic products I used and burned them instead of putting them out to the road for recycling pickup, is that still recycling? No. Saving money? Probably... as long as you're not destroying anything in the fuel system while running it. I'm all for finding other ways to avoid giving my $$ to big oil companies, but some people will just dump anything in their tanks. I actually take pride in the fact I can pass emissions testing with flying colors while running my alternative fuel! :c:
