Synthetic Oil
Having a hell of a time with my engine in my 2006 F350 SD and it was suggested to me to use synthetic oil.
After three stores I find out it is an uncommon thing to do, mainly because of cost. Does anyone use synthetic? If not, what is another alternative as my research has turned up I have the crappiest engine ever. :sadnow: BTW, I live in Edmonton, AB temperatures varying from +30 celcius to -40 celcius. |
It's not a bad engine once you work some of the bugs out.
Hit up walmart for oil. I run the rotella T6 synthetic. They also have the rotella T 15w40 dino oil there in the 20L jugs. |
I think the last kind i put in was the Rotella T triple protection but found at canadian tire.
Looked at walmart for synthetic oil didn't find, but then again I know not all stores carry the same items. ---AutoMerged DoublePost--- Lorddiesel, u have the same engine? Any suggestions? Already have done the EGR cooler delete kit and a couple other minor items under the hood.:humm: |

Oil cooler rebuild is on the list as well. A cheap mod is a coolent bypass filter. I posted my in the fluids/oils forum. it's pretty cheap and very easy to do. |
Wow, with this outside temperatures you are on the safe side with syns. They cover a wide temperature range and will maintaining shear stability. That means the vicosity will remain under these circumstances.
I go with Synthetics. They keep the engine clean, wipe the oil off and you can eat of it. The only difficulty I explored is the leak seaking ability of syns. Syns will remove the dirt and sludge out of every nock and cranny- so it can start to leak. At least mine did. But an afternoon, every seal and gasket replaced and now I couldnt be happier. Syns give me the extra insurance without to deal with those insurance guys. :c: |
