cleaning the dual tanks

So one of my projects for the upcoming year is to add a WVO system to the 8.3 Cummins FL70. The problem I posted about in the big rig section (plug where filter should be) has been corrected, I replaced plug with fuel/water seperator. I can only imagine that the filter kept getting plugged from debris in the tank, the previous owner got tired of replacing plugged filters so just did away with the filter. So now I need to clean the tanks, something I have never done. Any tips?
FYI- since the FL has two tanks, I am thinking of setting one up for the bio warm-up, and the other tank for the WVO. Anyone done this or see a problem with the idea?
Thanks!

Sounds like a good Idea :c:

I know alot of folks that do. Cummins has a setup that takes some oil out of the crankcase and adds it to the fuel system. Cummins says its motors are made to run up to 10% WMO....

Didn't know that. Do you have any idea the best way to clean out a tank? I figure wet vac the inside but then what? I have Kreemed the inside of motorcycle tanks, anything like that for diesel?

Are the tanks rusty or do they just have sediment in them?

I have no idea. There is fuel in them so I can't tell what type of debris it is.

I would remove as much fuel as possible then get a brush sort of like a gun cleaning brush but bigger with a long flexible shaft. Then an air hose with a long wand. This is just for sediment. If it is rust too which I doubt then I still do the same thing but try to coat the inside with epoxy paint for fuel tanks.

Thanks Superduty 5.9. I didn't know there was a paint that would withstand fuel. I'll look into it.

If you want to run WVO don't do anything than just replacing filters.

Run VO first. VO has extremly good cleaning abilities. So if your filter pluggs up- this is caused by the cleaning power of VO.
Change the filters and have spares at hand.
