WVO/Biodiesel What's Pro's and Con's of Cummins-Powerstroke-Duramax
 

I have an 03 cummins, brother has an 03 Duramax,
another friend has an Power stroke :pals:
What models are easier to run these alternative fuel mixes?...
How do fuel systems compare?...:humm::rocking:

i use it in my 91 and 08 cummins. its got to be made right and washed. runs good in spring , summer and fall.

My brother is running a B50 [50% biodiesel ] in his 03' Duramax and it has been fine for a couple months so far. Is the cummins system more particular than that?...I assume no..but not sure....:humm: Also I have heard of a 03 Duramax that has been running on B100 and is doing fine [ 100% Biodiesel homemade ] :choochoo::choochoo: :rocking: :yeah:

I'm familiar with the earlier models. I have a 87 Ford 6.9L, my brother has a mid 90's cummins, a friend has a 2000 Powerstroke. These models have all run well for years on WVO - Biodelsel - #2 deisel and blends of each. Of course during the proper weather conditions. :U:
But my 03 Cummins has the high pressure fuel system. I'm not real comfortable with it. If I cannot run a reasonable blend of say 50% #2 and 50% biodiesel I may well trade this off on something that is more friendly to these alternative fuels. Currently I am running about B30 to see how it will do. 30% Biodiesel ( My brother and I make our own from WVO but it is not "washed")

What has the 08 run good on?

i have run tank after tank of b100 bio in my 08. i always wash and dry good before i use in my trucks even for my tractors. i would not run it in a common rail if not washed and dryed good free of all water. i have seen guys run veggy oil in 12 valves but i dont want it.

Do you process your own or purchase it?...
How have you set up a processor to add this washing and drying process?

I have just done a test sample of biodiesel wash step one:U:
50% Biodiesel - 50% water - mix for 5m. - let set for about 3 days

i use mist method. i do this twice and then let it settle. then dry with some heat. when it is clear its ready to use.

I mist as well, but I've changed the bubbling method a bit. Instead of bubbling in the water layer so that the bubbles carry water up to the top, I bubble in the biodiesel to help dry it out. I also use a stainless aquarium heater to warm it up. Recirculating the bio while bubbling and warming dries it out very quickly.

So, I am concluding the drying process is heating the fuel to remove water?...

I'm thinking of making a container out of a fuel oil barrel 275g steel container.
Cut the top off so I can see inside, but band the top cut-off so I can set it back on. Weld on several drain valves on the end. So, I can dump in 100g bd. So I would need to mist in another 100g of water while it is mixing. Allow to mix when I get 100g of each for at least 5 min. Allow to set for several days. Then would I after draining off the water at the buttom, heat up the good fuel and milky layer before I pump out the good fuel from the top. Can the "drying" process be done after the good fuel has been separated?...

Even pump it to another container and warmed up there..?...

And then to what temperature and for how long?....:humm:
