just a question does biodiesel give you a loss of power? my dodge doesnt like it much just wondering :humm:

they say it doesnt but i say it does.

I also notice a power loss when running anything more than 5% bio diesel. It does burn cleaner as the more bio you run. I have ran 20% bio and noticed less smoke. have tried to talk and find others that have successfully ran it at 100% but not too many people here in vegas do stuff like that to my knowledge so i didn't go any farther into the making home brew diesel.

I don't know about power, because I really have no way of measuring it other than seat of my pants ... but, I would have to say it may but not much.

I do know that my mpg's go down about 5-10%, but I buy it for about 10% less, so it evens out. I try to burn about B15 all the time. (About 5 gallons per tank.)

My main thinking about bio-diesel is that it is made locally and all money stays in the US. No money is transferred overseas to the terrorists as with petrol-diesel.

in the summer months I burn whatever I feel like in my cabover, I experimented with used trans fluid, used hydraulic oil, mineral oil, WVO, all filtered to 10 micron and dumped in the tank, I have processed my own bio-diesel when prices were higher and everyone that knew I was doing it wanted to buy it and honestly I did not see a difference in the smoke/mileage/pep, exc whether it was filtered WVO or proccessed and washed bio-diesel so I dont bother with making it anymore and nobody asks for fuel at a discount anymore either, atleast I have a steady supply of about 50 gallons a week year roundbut with diesel prices under $2 I doubt I will dump much WVO in my tank, I would rather save it for when we see $5 a gallon again

I make/run my own bio. I run B100 in both my '07 LBZ duramax and my '06 Jetta TDI. There is a power/mileage loss of about 7%, but the fuel is SOOOOO much cheaper (if you make your own) that it doesn't matter. You can tune the power loss out with EFILive anyway. :D

i make bio diesel and yes they are a little power loss and mpg loss. if made right and washed right it is very good fuel. i would say just guessing about 10 percent power and 2 mpgs. bad bio is bad though

spoolinaround 03-11-2009 09:07 PM
