So is this still a working tractor, or are you going to be hooking it to the sled:humm:

deerefanatic 01-16-2011 11:58 AM

Hope to hook a sled with it this summer, but it's a worker 1st and foremost....

J-Pipes 01-16-2011 12:26 PM

Cool, as long as it's not "just a show tractor", have never understood that:humm:

deerefanatic 01-16-2011 01:05 PM

Yah. I hope to give it fresh paint and decals here in the future... I like pretty stuff. :D But rough stuff that works hard is cool too. :D

Nothing wrong with making it look good, that just seems to keep some people from actually using the tractor, I don't mean abusing it, just use it for something onther than lookin at.

deerefanatic 01-16-2011 07:46 PM

Yah. Gotta use this.. It's the only decent tractor we've got! :D

An update:

Well guys, the ol' Oliver is runnin well and earning her keep. :) I thought it was pretty peppy for "only" 160 hp. I ran into the guy I bought the motor from at the local tractor pull, where he informed me that he had maxed out the injector pump. I'm guesstimating it at 200-225 hp. :yeah:

Hooked it to the sled. I ran exhibition at the end of the 11,500 lb farm class. Actual weight was 12,200 lbs. Ran 5th gear (out of 6 speeds). Started with the hydra-power in underdrive, shifted to direct after I was rollin, then back into underdrive as I started loosin power. Made 240ish feet and ran out of traction just before I got under the turbo. Felt pretty good!

Hoping to put her on a diet before next years pull and sneak into the 9,500 class. :D

Nope. Actually, during the 50 Series, the Detriots were only used in the 1950-early production. The later production 1950-T was a turbocharged Waukeshaw. Then the 1850 used Perkins. Then all the others used Waukeshaw's. The 55 Series was all Waukeshaw, except for the 2255 which was 3208 Cat and I think the 2155 and the 4x4's had a hercules. Then, in the white years, the 2-105 once again had the 354 Perkins, but this time it was turbocharged... Then most of the rest were Waukeshaw's or Hercules. Then, at the very end, they used the 5.9 & 8.3 Cummins in their last models. And those models, even being made in the late 80's, sell used for at least 50% of their original sell price...

I may have left a few oddball facts out here and there but that's the majority of what I know. :)

Hi - the 2255 tractor has a 3150 Caterpillar engine - not a 3208.
