B2710 axle leak
 

I have a B2710 Kubota tractor with an axle leak. It is leaking right where the drop box enters the upper axle. Where the wheel pivots to turn. Have any of you had this problem or replaced these seals. Just wondering how big a job it is going to be.

Thats a common problem for kubota's, its not a hard job to do, there is also a bushing down inside that is usually worn also, but its a little bigger job if you want to replace that also.

got a pic of your front axle? the 2710's had two different ones, the newer ones are better as they have an upper bushing also. hard to explain without knowing that one it is.

There is a steel/rubber plug in the bottom of the gear case (pn 20 in this diagram is the gear case)

pry it out ( which can be fun , you may end up destroying it) Take everything apart in order until you get to the snap ring that holds the gear case onto that elbow, remove snap ring and it should come apart, its not a hard job by any means, just remember what order things came out in, and their orientation. It has been a while since I did one,you may or may not have to remove the big round gear cover & assembly on the side to dis-assemble the unit, some of them you have to access a snap ring though the side, and I cannot remember which ones now.

P.S. - I usually remove the 4 bolts holding the whole assembly on the tractor, remember to drain the oil in the axle and in the gear case(s), And the seals can be fun to pry out once you get to them.

Not a problem, I used to work on these kubotas, although it has been a few years since i worked on anything but the bigger ones, so my memory is a little foggy on some particulars.

They are notorious for leaking seals, but as long as you dont let them get so bad as to let sand/dirt etc in , the gears and bearings don't usually fail.
