Review Of The JD 2305 With Pics

Before I get started, this is not to start tractor wars, it is for info purposes only and this is only my opinion of the tractor I was using.

The motor on my garden tractor took a serious dump and grass was getting tall and I have around 11 acres to cut. I started looking around for something to rent and this is what I found.

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...5/DSC01270.jpg

It has a 23hp Yanmar with a 54in deck, and it was 4X4. When I picked it up, it only had 5 hours on it.

I am very thankfull for the 4X4. We had had a lot of rain and some of the spots I had to cut still had water standing and was like a swamp. The little JD went through tough grass and weeds like you wouldn't believe even with the standing water.
It came equiped with anything that you would possibly need to set the tractor up the way you wanted.
It already had the connections for a front end loader.

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...5/DSC01276.jpg

It had a weight bar and all the weights that you would need if you were using it with rear attachments. There were five weights and each one was 50lbs.

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...5/DSC01275.jpg

On the deck there was a hook up for a water hose to rinse the underside after use. My personal opinion is that it didn't really work very well.

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...5/DSC01267.jpg

It even had an option to run both the under carriage PTO and the rear PTO at the same time. Not sure what you would use them both for at the same time, but the option is there.

The hydrostatic trans was very nice. You could easily fly over the not so tough stuff and go slower over the nasty stuff without stopping. That is a big thumbs up in my book.
In two days, I logged a full 20 hours on this tractor and loved it. It did a great job and as equipped can be bought for around 12k., or add a front loader and the price goes up to around 14k.
Like I said these are just my opinions and what I experienced. Hopefully it will help someone that maybe looking to buy a tractor like this.

Nice tractor there:U: Yeah that hydrostatic trans is nice.

the engine must be pretty powerful if it needs weights on the front of it. let me know how that cleaner for the underside of the mower is. i have a Zero Radius Turn Bobcat that get so much crap on the bottom when it is wet so its a pain to clean it all up.

Lucas Amick 08-24-2008 08:13 PM

that's cool buddy can i borrow it?
have you gotten the other one back yet with the new motor?

MRaynor 08-24-2008 08:13 PM

I only rented it, but the deck cleaner sucked. I didn't see where it was a benefit at all on this tractor. The water barely even ran out of it.

my granparents have always had JD lawnmowers. i love them.

i can see this being beneficial using an offset mower out the back to cut a larger path.... or for using a vacuum or motorized rake.....

good review mike..... would have been better if you took the weights off the front and showed us some wheelies on it......:c:

Woody35 08-24-2008 08:50 PM

well do what i do and get your butt underneath and clean it. its not fun but it helps a lot.

I do that with my Craftsman garden trator. When I bought it, it had a 22hp motor but it now has a 26hp. You are right it is a major pain in the well you know, but I do it.

Thanks man. Truth be known, I think if that baby had a clutch it would have done wheelies even with the weights.

Take it to the tractor pulls and run it on the small sled...:rocking::rocking::rocking:

DuramaxBen 08-30-2008 08:11 AM

The Hydrostats suck at tractorpulls just so you know. Its an ok tractor but I have driven those JDs and I hate them.

bigdaddydiesel 08-30-2008 09:20 AM

Leave the mower engaged then start the water running, seems to clean mine out pretty good.

stkdram55 08-30-2008 02:54 PM

yeah the secret is too leave the blades runnin, grandpa has that on his mower and it works good.

The 2305 John Deere is a great little tractor we were in the middle of buying one a little while ago it was between the john deere X740 or the 2305 we went with the 2305 we got a 54" deck, loader and a snowblower and also had the folding rops from the 2320 put on it. the price was around $16,000 i thought it was a good buy cant wait to use the snowblower to do finish work this winter..

dieselbeef 12-12-2008 10:48 AM

the kubota is a much better rig for mowing..better bigger decks and the radiator is mtd between yer legs under the dash to keep it cleaner..notice the jd rad above
i also got a bx 2400w/loader and 60'' deck....it s amowing muther f'er. good as a bushhog

CAT MAN 12-12-2008 01:21 PM

you can get a 62" deck on the deere if you want the 54" just fits the tractor better i think. and most of the radiators are mounted in the front of the sub and compact tractors. Not sayin the kubota is bad becauase there not im just a big fan of John deere.

dieselbeef 12-13-2008 06:14 AM

actually none of the kubotas are..theyre all in between yer legs.
it looks like it til ya open the hood and see how its put together

CAT MAN 12-13-2008 10:14 AM

dieselbeef are you saying all the radiators are up front on the kubotas??

dieselbeef 12-13-2008 10:32 AM

no most of them are between yer legs...until ya git into the bigger 40 hp and above stuff

Babyfat 12-13-2008 11:28 AM

No, the BX's and G's have the radiator in the back of the engine compartment the B's and larger are in the front

CAT MAN 12-13-2008 03:37 PM

on the JD and the NH sub compacts the radiators are up front.. O well all i know is i love my 2305.
