Cummins swap

How's it going? I'm new on this site and i'm about to be the proud owner of my first diesel. Bought me a 2000 Excursion V10, waiting till i pcs to swap in a 12 valve Cummins. just got a few questions. i am not interested in making gobs of power, i just want to get the best fuel mileage out of it as i can, but whatever power i make along the way is fine by me. should i keep the factory 4.10's in the rear or should i put in 3.73's? also the 4r100 should handle the torque if i put in a performance torque converter and valve body right? and another thing, what am i to do about exhaust, i mean, am i gonna have a cummins (dodge) exhaust coming out of the turbo and a super duty exhaust welded to it? or is there a company that i am not aware of that sells this setup? i appreciate any assistance in this matter fellow bombers.

as far as makin power u need to post that in the dodge under year motor you have they will tell you what mods you should do to get the power you want out of it, my guess on the exaust is you are gonna have to fab it up yourself or pay to have it done somewhere and the trans id guess would be OK with vb and good tq, im at 325-350ish at the wheels and im doin ok with a big cooler and tq so far i got like 50000 on my rebuild and it aint hurt yet so i think youd be ok, im sure someone else will post to verify or void on the trans...i think itd be awesome to see a 5speed in a exc though lol

Ive got an excursion with a 24 valve in it. I bought the excursion with a 5.4 in it, when i put the cummins in, it blew the tranny in about 2 weeks. Im running the 4R100, i pulled it, had it rebuilt with a 3 disk billet torque converter, havent had a problem since. I got about 20,000 miles on the swap.

The motor is mainly stock, besides some little things. For the exhaust, i purchased a MBRP 4" turbo back exhaust made for a diesel excursion, i modified the cummins down pipe to fit into the ford down pipe. Took a grinder, made a bunch of slices in the top of the ford down pipe and bent in to fit tight around the cummins down pipe, and welded shut. Worked like a charm, and will save you a lot of money over getting a full exhaust plumbed in. I think the entire exhaust cost me $400. Hope this helps you. :c:
