What chip/module?

2001 F-550 rollback auto.

wanting more power and more fuel mi.

should i just order a single custom tune?

or just purchase a superchip or something the like?

Diezel Dawg 12-15-2009 10:28 AM

Get a custom tued chip from DP, PHP, Tony Wildman or many other good tuners that are out there.

I am going to buck the trend and guess this is a fleet rig of some kind... Now a multi pos chip is the cats meow, but for something like that, a Superchip tuner might be the best bet. It would give you a way to read and clear any codes, its not going to give you enough power to really hurt anything and there easy to transfer from one truck to the next.

Before you add any power I would suggest getting a pyro, they make a nice single pod that mounts on the steering column and you could throw a Isspro EV2 pyro in there for $150 or so...

Superchips was one of the easiest and safest mods I ever bought.

jspike91 12-18-2009 11:47 AM

we had something in out old truck (before it was stolen), but im not sure what it was because my dad had it done at the ford dealership, and supposedly the chip came out of florida. whatever it was gave it a lot more power and jumped it 4 mpg. however it was a 6spd, our new one is an auto and it is BONE STOCK and getting at most 10 mpg. so i cant decide whether to put in a superchips which i know is a good programer, but its generic and i was told that i could get a single custom tune at like 75 hp for less than 200 bucks. so thats why i'm looking for more info.

and its not exactly a fleet truck, its a 2000 F550 4dr. 2wd. jerrdan rollback with 64k miles that we use at our car lot to haul to and from the sale. not for hire.

With a chip, you have no way to read or clear codes without buying something else...

You have a fleet rig, its a work truck, not a personal truck... Superchips is the best fit for your truck IMHO...:tu:

i dont mean to sound ignorant, but i have a code reader here at the shop... and my old roll back never threw any codes... but the general consensus is a superchip, one last question, what about the superchip versus the predator?

dirty balz 12-19-2009 03:26 PM

i heard the predator blows. i was going to buy one along time ago when i didnt really know anything about chips and such. go with superchips delete the muffler do a 6637 intake and get yourself some gauges so you know what the fudge is going on with your trans turbo and motor that the stock gauge cluster doesnt tell you

Chvyrkr 12-20-2009 01:27 AM

I'll add another vote for the superchip, for your application.

I may get flammed for sayin it, but I still think that thing had one of the best shifting, and safest tow tunes of anything I've tried. I could not get EGT's to spike with a trailer on. Some of the custom tow tunes I've tried gave me a little more power, but I'm drivin with one eye on the road, and another on the gauge.

It's kinda freaky when your feet start gettin warmer on a long grade :humm:

Throw a superchips tuner on it, a pyro with the probe in the manifold and drive it... It will put out about 270-290hp, run better and get better milage... Best thing, there is LITTLE if any chance of blowing anything up.

If you were wanting to build a truck to play with, or one that YOU would be the only driver ever, I might say something different...

jspike91 12-23-2009 03:33 PM

thanks for all the replys and info. i originally was leaning towards the superchip, and i believe thats what im going to order.... on to the next question.... will deleting the mufler on a 7.3 help it like it does the cummins, i ask because i heard at one time that it could actually hurt the miliage on these because there is no back pressure or somethin like that. any input?

Turbo produces all the back pressure you need. Delete the muffler and go... Or a 4" turbo back exhaust...

They can be had for about $300 to your door.

jspike91 01-05-2010 03:18 PM

alright. thanks for the info... how much will i have to beat the firewall to get a 4"tbe on? i hear it can be a pain on these trucks.

and what is a 6637, drop in k+n or something?

Diesel Dawgs Performance 01-05-2010 04:10 PM

I like the TS 6pos Chip

6637 is a big Napa filter that replaces the factory box. Cheap, flows way more then 90% of the filters on the market.

4" will drop right in. 3" down pipe is tough on the OBS trucks, but on the SD there is lots of room for a 4".

DobermanDiesels 01-05-2010 05:16 PM

i might add in that a bully dog torque dog would be a great program to run i had great fuel millage with it but i also run a adr now and love it just food for thought

Chvyrkr 01-05-2010 06:56 PM

Ford...

jspike91 01-07-2010 10:25 AM

^?... ford what????

luke, this isnt a truck that needs a 6pos chip. its a truck i haul cars to and from auction with... but... it would be awesome to have a 7.3 4dr 550 rollback outrunning dmax's... lol

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

as for the chip, i'm suppose to acquire a flashpaq for the low low price of $75. if it works, ill pay him and thats that, now i just got to talk the boss into letting me str8 pipe it it and get the filter.

He made mention of the bully dog torque dog and the ADR, which are both dodge products. Well, ADR is for sure, never heard of the torque dog.
