2000 F250 7.3 with mods, intake question

hey all, i'm new to the diesel game, just bought a 2000 F250 7.3, auto, 3.73's, plus already installed was Banks intercooler, power elbow, waste gate, monster exhaust and six gun tuner. Also has a CFM+ intake manifold.
i have 2 questions if anyone wants to humor me:
#1 - the truck has the stock airbox. i put in a fresh fleet guard filter i picked up at my local international dealer. how much power can the stock airbox support? should i mod the airbox to take in more air, do the diy tymar mod, or go with a cai?
#2 - how much hp, tq, and highway (non towing) mpg's do you think the truck has over stock #'s? i have done a good bit of research over the last few days but am coming up short.
thanks in advance.

get real intake, the tymar or diy is a good intake. i run an AFE stage 2.

im not sure about the banks tuner but im going to guess maybe 250-275ish? stock im guessing would be around 220? if you had a better tuner you could be closer to 300

I was monitoring air intake temperatures today and I was averaging 5-10° over ambient while moving and 25° over when sitting at stop lights. If there isn't a drastic difference on the tymar type setup I think that would be the way to go.
Still open to other opinions of course.

Can't really tell you if there is an actual temperature difference between the diy and a AFE or S&B

bump, where are all the 7.3 performance guys?

your pretty much looking at him, this site is dead for the 7.3

The Tymar mod is a good way of going. The only down fall of this setup is that with an open setup like this. It is hard to keep the hot air from the engine to the filter. With a diesel, I dont think cold air vs hot air really has a big difference. The stage 2 from somewere else are thought to be tested. Think of it like this. More air into the chamber the biger bang, with more air out fastest. With diesels, more air compressed into the chamber makes a big bang when the diesel fuel hits the compreased air it goes bang. Then you need a a better way to get the burn fuel out.

So. as far as compairing tymar vs afe vs stock. Lets just say that the stock air box lets in 10 lbs of air. The AFE lets in 50 lbs of air. the tymar can let up to 50 plus depending on filter style and setup. My understanding is the bigger filter the better. Currently I have been playing with filter sizes. I started with a small spectra filter to a large spectra filter and large K N filter to the large napa filter. The large filter felt to produce more bang from the engine.

Now, with putting more air into the chamber, you need to get this extra air out. So you put a bigger exhaust on. It is best to start with a 4" from the turbo out, if the there is enough room between engine and firewall. With putting a 4" pipe from the turbo, will help keep the Exhaust Gas Temps lower for the turbo. A cooler turbo will last longer. I dont really know if bigger exhaust really does alot for power. There is alot of opionins on this fact and NOT WORTH HAVING ANY WARES OVER IT.

Now that you have in and out covered. Then you can go for a chip. A 6 position chip is the funnest way. These plug into the coputer. Then there is programmers that will reflash the computer. Most programmers will give you some guages to give you a read out of your engine. Most folks seem to go to the 6 position chip. Though I would say be carefull with the company you go with. Some companies have so called "CANNED" tunes. They are a basic set of tunes that give you some power. The good things of these chips. Most of the can be reburnt with better tunes.

There a few other mods that can be helpfull. There is a boost fouler that plugs into the turbo sencor. This tricks the computer to think the turbo is producing less boost then it really is. Another MOD is fuel system. This can be a trick mod.
hear is a link a youtuber that shows how to do the fuel mod. These two mods go great together, do at the same time. There are also upgraded fuel systems that can help out as well.

There are some mods that you can do with the turbo. Like a WW2 compresser well and a big head wast gate. Though it is better to just get an upgraded turbo. There are also things like better tubes, intake x pipes, and such that helps.

Hear is a link to another youtuber that has some good info. He gives his results of his tests of different things. If you follow his directions to the letter on his boost fouler and fuel system mods.

again. everyone has a good opinon on these due to everyone has different results for things. Your results will be different from mine and everyone elses. These are a good start.
