Early 99 turbo boost?
I have an early 99 Powerstroke with a full 4 inch straight pipe, k&n cold air intake, and an edge evolution programmer. With it on the highest setting, 100 hp, it won't boost past 19 psi. What is wrong with it? I've tried unplugging the vacuum hose to the waste gate and it will boost to about 21 with that unplugged and the end plugged with a screw. I ordered a TS chip for it and it wouldn't boost past 14 psi with that installed. Oh, and on stock it will boost to 16 psi.

You need more fuel to build more boost

My truck has plenty of fuel. It blows black smoke like crazy. So it isn't lacking any fuel.

have you checked your turbo? a stock E99 shouldnt have enough fuel to blow a ton of smoke.

the injectors are small, even when using them to the max they don't provide enough fuel to blow a ton of smoke, it might for a second down low the the turbo should be able to clean it up quick. check your turbo to see if its good, if it is start looking for a boost leak.

I have an early 99 with the edge Cts evolution with stock exhaust and a k&n intake I get about 23 psi and it will blow a lol smoke but it really won't dump if you what more you have to give it more ( air and fuel) a lift pump and a fuel spring will help alot :c:

a lift pump is what supply the injectors with fuel pressure, a larger one will not do anything unless yours is weak. not sure the SD has a spring you can mod to get more fuel pressure.

in the fuel pressure regulator, its been a while since i looked at one in a SD but its different then the OBS which i know has one.
|
The spring is located at the bottom driver side under your fuel bowl. You can by a heavyer spring for 10-12$. Its a quick mod. Also you can pull your fuel pins out and drill one of the holes out from an 1/8 to a 1/4 but I wouldn't recommend doing both holes on the pin unless you are tuning a heavily mod truck

None of that is going to do anything for making more power unless he has serious fuel restrictions.

You need custom tuning, if you already have that then you need injectors, the injectors in a powerstroke only hold so much fuel to inject. You cant put more fuel pressure or flow to them and expect more power.
|
Ok in the e99 doesn't it come factory with single shot injectors and in the later it has double shot?
|
No the E99 came with AB code injectors which are 120cc split shots. The 99+ came with ADs that are 140cc split shots
|
Ok I knew there was a difference just wasn't sure what. Can they just be exchanged. Also I heard the IDM is smaller in the e99 and if you get bigger injectors it can melt the plug to the injectors and ruin them. Or is this another rummor
|
Can what be exchanged? And you can run any idm from any powerstroke. The newer ones have a little more voltage which makes the injectors more responsive but it won't hurt anything
