lots of motor questions!

if everything goes as planned i will be getting a 1989 f250 4x4 with a newer model powerstroke engine. not sure as if its a pre 99 or newer 99. bolted to a zf6. i have not seen the truck but my adhd has already kicked in looking for power questions so here we go!! i wont be driving the truck everyday as i leave for the army the 30th!! i have money already and ill be adding to that as soon as i step foot on base for training. heres a few questions opinions and tips are welcome so anybody that has a idea please chime on in. now i know the pre 99 has forged internals and newer 99 and up has powdered metal rods and split shot injectors thats all i can really tell you thats honest.

this is a lifted truck 10 inches on 37 inch tires with lower then 410 gears and straight axle swap on the front. unsure of which axles were used i will let u all know asap.

before any power mods it would be best for ladder bads front and back? and swapping 355 gears for a little more power range through gears? 5 speed and 6 speed still have a 1:1 gear ratio for over drive and it may lag a little but thats not goin to concern me at all folks.

now for the motor. im not concerned about to much money at first as i am goin to be getting one heck of a buy.

238cc hybrid injectors i always like to go big and have room for later is this the ones good for 450 or 500hp with supporting mods? what power gain and torque will i expect to feel and notice from these? the rosewood diesel set would be my first choice.

high pressure oil pump would be my next guess as to what i need for the injectors? will these increase power or notice a difference if i was to put this in first or wait a couple days to purchase this item after i install injectors?

what downpipe as far as size should i order? some say the bigger the better and i understand that is a big factor but spool time is also key. and would a 4 inch downpipe be a noticable difference other then a 3 inch downpipe? it was on my cummins but this is a different animal.

would a actual cold air intake and box be a noticable difference? kindly a dumb question but mpg/power. i know it should flow more air but compared to stock box is it much different or should i spend 3 to 400 on something else first? which company is the best for reliability and hp for the buck

any performance up pipes or intake manifolds out there? or would porting and polsing the intake its self help any? where do i need to look for better up pipes?

i will be getting headstuds and having the heads redone. the big question is porting and polishing the heads and bowl work on intake and exhaust i heard the heads dont flow anywhere they need to be that they actually choke the engine. if i would have them worked over it would be done by somebody with experience in forced induction and diesel heads. out of stage 1,2,3 and 3 bein the max port and polish out of heads if i was close to a stage 3 and could have them done for about 800 for both heads would people reccomend this and port matched to intake or aftermarket intake?

im not worried about street ability or lopey idle or spendin a few extra dollars on something most people dont do or need. but even if its not reccomended or needed you cant tell me a cam will not help especially with ported heads! im more of a na engine man but ive always had cummins mostly and diesel trucks. anyways my question is if i can find a cam for 400-600$ that had a pretty good amount of extra lift and lower lsa and not to more dutation and overlap what would i expect to see out of a healthy cam swap less egts better power band and power and torque. quicker turbo spool and maybe a mpg or two. any extra air in our air out helps anymotor but wats poeples opinions on a healthy cam swap and valve springs,

what fuel system do i need to look at maybe stock will keep up but it will be easier on it and better reliability and maybe a few more pounds fuel pressure.

what turbos good upgrades? i guess i couldnt get one off a 6.4 or 6.0? a h2e or any opinions would be great to look for.

if anybody has any other ideas for hp/ reliability/ tq/ etc. would be much appreciated. is there a bigger set of injectors? any performance intakes (one between the heads not a air intake!) is there twin turbo kits or diy kits? maybe two stockers together? i know about a clutch and shafts and gauges etc. my number is 865 242 3572 if some would like to text me a little and explain! any help is appreciated. thanks eric! :pca1:

Slow down there ADHD! Just to be clear, is it a 1989 truck or 1999 truck?

blazier18 01-19-2012 08:08 PM

its a 1989 with a powerstroke and 6 speed in it

twinboys 01-20-2012 11:30 PM

You need to find out if it's an early or late 99 engine. Late 99 and later came with a 17* HPOP which is capable of driving 238's hybrids.

You want a 4" downpipe if it will fit. (They don't fit the 94-97 f-series and we have to settle for 3" which is a huge improvement over stock.)

You want a TS type 6 position chip with custom tuning.

DIY filter intake... no box needed. (do a search on this)

I'd say start with this and see how you like it.

^^ start off eas and see how you like it.

This is what kindly makes me angry when I get on here. Most of the time when somebody asks a question unless its very stupid or makes no sense. Most people turn the question around. Thanks for the help I guess no questions were answered. Ill just call experienced people and find out what I want to know. Not tryin to be a dick to you all but I don't need to know what you all would do to ur truck I was wantin to know which of those do I need for power and which is better. Idk how to explain it but dam:argh:

twinboys 01-23-2012 11:35 PM

You have a lot of crap on your first post. I'm not going to spend hours answering every question and explaining myself. I'd be happy to help...I want to help. Try asking about ONE thing at a time, you should get better results.

This is wrong. 94-01 have forged rods, 01-03 have PMR's. All Superduty trucks have split shot injectors. Early 99 have AB's that flow roughly 120cc and Late 99+ have AD's that flow 140cc.

Also would like to point out here after reading your next post that you did welcome opinions and and ideas. So don't get pissy when somebody gives you exactly that...

I would stick with the 4.10 gears with those 37's... And no, you don't NEED ladder bars immediately, drive it first.

now for the motor. im not concerned about to much money at first as i am goin to be getting one heck of a buy.

You will get 450 hp with those injectors and all the supporting mods... That is the power you will expect to see from that. Rosewood is good people

high pressure oil pump would be my next guess as to what i need for the injectors? will these increase power or notice a difference if i was to put this in first or wait a couple days to purchase this item after i install injectors?

You can do it either way... It is a SUPPORTING mod... If supports your injectors and gives them the proper amount of oil needed to run. You could run the injectors on the stock pump if it is doing its job and holds pressure but you will need to actually have the truck in your possession and a willingness to find out the current condition of your stock pump.

what downpipe as far as size should i order? some say the bigger the better and i understand that is a big factor but spool time is also key. and would a 4 inch downpipe be a noticable difference other then a 3 inch downpipe? it was on my cummins but this is a different animal.

I'd go 4".. Not gonna change much on spooling. You need to get the truck and see what kind of clearance on the firewall you will have...

would a actual cold air intake and box be a noticable difference? kindly a dumb question but mpg/power. i know it should flow more air but compared to stock box is it much different or should i spend 3 to 400 on something else first? which company is the best for reliability and hp for the buck

In my opinion (which you asked for at the beginning of this post) an intake is an intake. There are many good intakes out there. Do a search for some and buy the one that tickles your fancy. You do want to get a better intake than the stock box.

any performance up pipes or intake manifolds out there? or would porting and polsing the intake its self help any? where do i need to look for better up pipes?

Bellowed. Check out riffraff for those

i will be getting headstuds and having the heads redone. the big question is porting and polishing the heads and bowl work on intake and exhaust i heard the heads dont flow anywhere they need to be that they actually choke the engine. if i would have them worked over it would be done by somebody with experience in forced induction and diesel heads. out of stage 1,2,3 and 3 bein the max port and polish out of heads if i was close to a stage 3 and could have them done for about 800 for both heads would people reccomend this and port matched to intake or aftermarket intake?

never heard any of this...

im not worried about street ability or lopey idle or spendin a few extra dollars on something most people dont do or need. but even if its not reccomended or needed you cant tell me a cam will not help especially with ported heads! im more of a na engine man but ive always had cummins mostly and diesel trucks. anyways my question is if i can find a cam for 400-600$ that had a pretty good amount of extra lift and lower lsa and not to more dutation and overlap what would i expect to see out of a healthy cam swap less egts better power band and power and torque. quicker turbo spool and maybe a mpg or two. any extra air in our air out helps anymotor but wats poeples opinions on a healthy cam swap and valve springs,

Gearhead auto does cams and I don't think you will see much gain... And you definitely won't squeeze mpgs from it.

what fuel system do i need to look at maybe stock will keep up but it will be easier on it and better reliability and maybe a few more pounds fuel pressure.

Do a search for fuel systems. Plenty of info on here...

what turbos good upgrades? i guess i couldnt get one off a 6.4 or 6.0? a h2e or any opinions would be great to look for.

Again, plenty of aftermarket turbo talk on here. A modded H2E would be a good choice.

if anybody has any other ideas for hp/ reliability/ tq/ etc. would be much appreciated. is there a bigger set of injectors? any performance intakes (one between the heads not a air intake!) is there twin turbo kits or diy kits? maybe two stockers together? i know about a clutch and shafts and gauges etc. my number is 865 242 3572 if some would like to text me a little and explain! any help is appreciated. thanks eric! :pca1:

Do some research. Then come back with some specific questions. Many people ask the same question over and over on these forums, I bet the answer to your question is a couple clicks away. Were here to help, and when you ask for opinions, expect to get just that. :c:

chips work best with powerstrokes, if this answers any of your questions, and tony wildman programs the best chips for powerstrokes, but that's just research and my own knowledge, search it first.

No one is the best. Every pickup is different, some like tuner A some like tuner B its all what your pickup likes best.
