Chip Question

Can you put a chip on a truck that has had a chip on it before? The chips are different. Need answers please

Sure can. The PCM will already be cleaned, all you need to do is stick the new one in and run it!

Just make sure the new chip is burned for that specific truck.

OK. Thats what i thought but this guy keeps telling me that if i bought one it wouldnt work because my truck had a chip on it before i got. The guy i got it from set it back to stock first though.

I'm assuming he had an Edge or something on there then? As long as it was set back to stock...

Look into getting a TS style chip for it. So many more options than a programmer.

Chips are limited. Programmers are where its at. I can read trouble codes on mine get it updated chips you have to get reburned and its a pain in the butt I think. Me personaly id go with programmer I had a banks chip supposably the best that peice overheated when I tried runnin it hard and shut my truck down. Programmer just backs the fuel down when your about to cost yourself money

Custom tuned chip is far superior to any programmer.

Switch on the fly. No flash programming. No canned tunes. Custom tuners will actually give you tried and tested tunes that will work for your set up. You can get reburns when you need them, For example, when you add more mods. You choose the tunes that you want.

A programmer will give you more power, but I disagree with them being where its at.

Banks is far from the best chip out there.

a TS chip tuned by tyrant diesel is where its at!

"Updated" is a severely overused term. Besides, most any off-the-shelf programmers for the 7.3L have calibrations that are many years old....no sense in rewriting something that works. Reburns on chips are fast and usually fairly inexpensive. Me personaly id go with programmer I had a banks chip supposably the best that peice overheated when I tried runnin it hard and shut my truck down. Chips don't get "hotter" when the truck is run "harder". There's no difference in what is being done or processed by the chip just because of the load on the engine.Programmer just backs the fuel down when your about to cost yourself money Do you know how a programmer works? There is no possible way for an actual programmer to "back down" the fuel dependent on operating conditions as the PCM has no way of knowing what the EGT is on these trucks.

Programmers are a good way to go, but by no means are they any better than a chip. Most older flash programmers are a good way to get a substantial power increase for not a lot of money as they can be found all over ebay and craigslist on the cheap. Newer programming devices often include a monitor that allows the driver to monitor most engine/transmission parameters available on the data stream. These are usually a bit less cost-effective though, especially if you already have analog gauges mounted somewhere in the truck.

this is like saying a matchlock rifle is a better fire arm then an M4 :w2:

go with any custom tuned chip that runs on a TS performance chip. i know a guy who has ran Swamps, Beans, TW, PHP and another one i think Tyrant??? you can change between who tunes the chip to see what you like
