Edge evolution ????
Hi I have a 1995 ford F250 powerstroke , it has an aFe stage 2 intake and 3 and a half straight pipe and 262000kms. I am looking to put the edge in it but i dont want to grenade my motor i tend to have a heavy foot . I am worried about the kms on the truck and how the injection system and the turbo will take it. So any horror stories or have you had good luck . Thanks!

Get yourself a set of gauges and learn to drive by them... You might loose a tranny with that many miles, but thats just going to happen.
I would recomend a chip over a programer myself... Contact Bill or Corey at Power Hungry Performance, they can set you up with a chip, or even a custom tuned Edge unit that will be night and day better then the stock ones. check up in the sponser forum, Power Hungry Performance...:tu: |
thanks i dont know if i can go through power hungry performance because i am in british coloumbia canada but i will try and just exhaust temp gauges??? :humm:
|
Id get Exhaust Gas Temp and Boost Gauges.
|
i had an edge evolution on a 96 PSD i had. it was a built auto loader. that chip wasn't worth a dam on tow. race and extreme did ok. but overall i think it did better on stock. i would go with a 6 position chip.
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- auto loader tranny... |
If it is an auto get a trans gauge, boost and pyro. Id also recommend a bigger trans cooler the stock one is tiny. ANd its the weakest link.

I had an Edge for my Duramax. It was a piece of junk with all kinds of quirks and bugs. And my experience was better than most people I've talked to. I will never use their products again. It seems to be a trend that wherever you go there are always people with bad experience with Edge products, often putting them in dangerous situations with the vehicle shut down and unresponsive.

Good luck,... because with the edge your gonna need it. Myself and I think cowmilker has has got inline with now due to his recent experiences have become the biggest anti edge people on our particular forum. Beware of what you get. Edge is known to produce more power, but lots more problems to go with it. Its not uncommon for it to mess up the PCM and you have to have the dealer reflash the computer because it wont entirely release the program. They cause lots of strange problems due some more research on it before you buy it'll be worth the effort. The programming they use seems fine in the gen2 7.3's but not in ours it just screws up your truck it has to several of our members here. So much so that nobody here really recommends them for anything except to be sold to some other uneducated sucker. Just a word of caution.

I also have the Edge Evolution on my truck. It failed on me one time in my driveway.if you want an EDGE, I will sell mine to you for 250.00 and put the money into a real chip. I must recommend not to buy the Edge though. Just my .02.
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- now, php i do understand you REprogram edge evos.. and to me that says it all. REprogramming means fixing the original problem... the problem being the factory edge tunes. |
Oh, you are very much entitled to your opinion and I'm not going to dispute any of the remarks made.
I was simply curious....nothing more. The majority of the problems from the Edge Evolutions stem from the 95-97 trucks. In recent years, the PCMs become less forgiving with high-speed communication speed mismatches, and yes, it will disable the truck until the PCM can be reflashed by the dealer. Be aware though that it is not simply a problem with Edge, but all flash programmers. It's not an issue on the newer 7.3L trucks...yet...but once the clock speed starts drifting as the electronics age some more, expect flash programmers of any brand to start causing more problems. |

if you want an edge buy one cheap, then send it to php to have them reprogram it for you,or just order a 6 pos chip from php and be done with it.
i personally wont own edge products one is my own reason, and two i have heard many horror stories about them, but mainly reason 1 |
Just having us reprogram the older Evolution WILL NOT keep it from freezing up during programming and causing you grief.
It's best to not use any flash programmer on a 95-97 truck. |
My 97 PSD came with one of these programmers the EEF 1000 what can be done once it is installed and programmed?
|
Well, if it's installed and running, you're good. Just refrain from needless reprogramming sessions.
|
will I be safe to run diagnosiss ?
|
Yes you will. The scanner won't know any different nor will any diagnostic testing.
|
IMO having installed two edge evo's on 7.3s, then installing TS chips on different ones, the ts ones were quick with same mods and were smoother, might have been the trucks but not sure, just my opinion
|
yea like CSIPSD said, pay attention to your gauges, but I'm gonna go with the TS 6position chip, just bcuz i've known of two or more guys with edge juice programmers with blown motors, probably due to high egt. I think edge is overrated
|
i have a evo on my 95 and once my tranny learned it seemed to do fine i want to contact go power hungry and have them use there tunes if possible.
|
I have an edge programmer for my 97 stroker and when i bought it the guy even stated "There has been problems with the programmer affecting your trucks wiring or something and if that happens remove it from your truck asap". To me that was a good indication that it wasnt the best. But who know
|
Hi,PHPDiesel, we have a edge programmer that we bought in 2003 and have used to switch from stock to tow mode often and it is telling us we have problem with our ICP
we just changed our HPOP,we had a garage scan the truck with their scanner and came up with same codes, but i think if i use some electrical spray&air spray i may get rid of contamination on connections, thanks |
Does anybody know why the edge products fry the PCM? I've heard a bunch of stories like this
