Master Engine Rebuild Kits

So with the old ford passing the 400k mark we are going to do a rebuild on it. Has anyone done one before and if so did you buy a kit or just buy everything yourself. Im wondering if I can just take my time and search all the individual parts and maybe buy each of them from the cheapest place if I can get it cheaper but dont want to waste a bunch of time and find out it ill cost more $$.

So far I have found this Northern Auto Parts: - Ford 7.3 Turbo diesel Powerstroke 94-02

which seems like a pretty good price to me but I dont want to buy it then find the same thing for a cheaper price.

What Parts Are You Looking To Get??

rebuild

Ive been around for several 7.3 rebuilds. 4 of which were done at a former dealer. I'll stand up and say the the Motorcraft 7.3 rebuild kit ROCKS! Its worth every penny! The last time I messed witht the Ford kit I think it was like $1500.

Ill have to call tomorrow I may even be able to get it with a employee discount. Do you know if that includes the rings and pistons?

Yes

All the ones we did were right around 400,000 miles. All of them had atleast on hole that needed to be bored .010 over. So the best thing to do is get your block machined then order the kit to fit your new measurements. I believe it goes to .040 but not sure. Oh and yes they come with pistons and rings.

I have heard great things about the Ford Direct OH Kit. The Tech i talked to said that they are extremely complete....such as alot of the smaller orings etc....

hey most of my engine background is in SBC's and aircraft turbines...a buddy just picked up a 97 powerstroke and asked me if I'd rebuild the engine for him, don't know what's wrong with it but said he found a kit for $950, no idea what's in that. I'll find out more about those details soon; but is it pretty common to rebuild these?
Is it just a typical rebuild, get the heads checked/rebuilt by a shop and assemble the short block correctly? can't imagine a reman long block from ford being affordable but does anyone know what those go for?

Do an entirely re-manufactured engine. It will cost more, but everything is gone through.

greasemonkey 07-10-2008 09:53 AM

do you know how much? I know after rebuilding a lot of SBC's, it's actually become cheaper to buy a reman outright than rebuild...I realize that one's been around for over 50 years so it's relatively common....

where do I look for a reman Powerstroke? and how much do they typically go for?

RePower Automotive Engines 2000, your complete dealer for performance engines!

Rebuilds are usually $2000-$3000
Depending on the type of engine
Remans are usually $5000-$8000
