IC Pipes

RE: My '97 OBS PSD

I have a 6.0l IC that I'm putting in and a D66 clone turbo. I still have 2" plunem's but am going with 3" plunems later. Eventually I want to go with an Irate T4 mount and an S366, so I can't spend a whole lot on IC pipes. Besides me being on a fixed income now, I might have to mod one tube later for the cold side on that. But you know how temporary goes sometimes... It just needs to be functional for now.

I have MIG's, TIG's, Torches, Plasma Cutters. I don't have tubing benders or access to one. I live in very small town and there is (of the 3-4 businesses in town) a muffler shop... but he has hinted to me in the past that I would get better pricing buying materials on my own.

Could people look at these two and see want you all think? Both are 3" universal type kits. I'm thinking they are probably thin wall to be at those prices. One has straight tubes and 45's. The other has straight tubes, 90's and two sweeping "U's".

I'm thinking, since I'm going to be cutting and welding... that the one with the 90's would work best(?)

But looking at the bends, it might flow better with 45's... but everyone's OBS kit's look like driver's side is two sweeping 90's and the passenger side is three 45's. I don't know. I don't know anyone who has used these kits, so I don't have any idea how thick they are. They just might end up being paper thin and be blowing holes through it trying to weld them, then be a waste of money and not work out...

I can wait a couple months to decide. If you have any other ideas on that which might work out better and/or be cheaper? Maybe I should just price 3" exhaust tubing and bends. My fear on that is by the time I get boots and clamps... it might add to be more. But then again, by just going with exhaust tubing, at least I'll guaranty it won't be paper thin.

Anyone have a spare OBS spiders they aren't using? I want to get one to use for parts... to cut up and fabricate...

We took a few sets of stock pipes and cut and welded till they fit. I think jakes kit comes with the hot side pipe now but im not sure. One of these days im just going to take it to an exhaust shop and have them bend me a set of new ones

"Jake's Kit?" is from where? The 6.0l IC got here and had a mounting ear broken. I figure I can repair that with epoxy and a die grinder. Seller gave my $50 back on the shipping damage.

I'm thinking about the spider... the "Y" to the intake plenums... I really like the Banks design, but that goes with a price... and what I'm making for that would be temporary, unitl I can get some bigger plenums on there.

I went to that exhaust shop here in town and talked with him. He says he doesn't really do intake pipes. In fact, with all he's told me he doesn't do, I'm starting to wonder what he does do(?) His sign also says "repair", which he says means oil chages, light tuneups (but he can't diagnose anything), belts and hoses. I asked him more along the lines of about the radius of bends that he might be able to do in different sized pipes. Nto going to be tight enough for what I want to do.

I checked at the heavy truck supply. Wow. 3" 90* was $45. I don't think I'll go that way. I'm thinking of going to the wrecker (50 miles away to ask if they have intercooler pipes that I can buy. (There phone goes to a parent company who desn't know what they have onhand!!!) Then maybe buy a 10' stick of 3" and a couple feet of 2".

On one side, I'm thinking if I did make a good spider to get me by, I'm either going to have to section it and weld it back together or find an old PBS spider to cut apart into 2 pieces (Top piece to get to 3" pipe. The welding a 3" 90* into the top of the bottom section of that.

I'm scouring wrecking yards. All I've been to so far, seems those are probably the first thing that was removed!?! No luck on them here so far...
