The only part you are replacing here is about the size of a small pill bottle, everything stays the same as you have in there right now so it won't change wheel fit at all.

Now to confuse the subject some. Years ago i thought I remembered another rear drum brake mod that did actually replace the whole drum and pads from another kind of truck to use on ours that were a little bigger. Can't remember anything else about it though, ring any bells to anybody.

That wasnt too long ago - some guys have put third gen brakes on their second gen. Great upgrade but you have to buy 17" wheels and tires as well - so its kind of pricey.

i never went the 1 ton route; but i did go from the 2 1/2 to 3" wide shoes and the dana 70 HD wheel cylinders... the 1 ton's would be nice for straight line braking but i've already had the rear of the truck want to come around in front of me braking in a corner; so i'm pleased with the way the truck brakes. i guess... :humm: its the best the truck has stopped in 20 years

Just got mine done today (can't believe I waited so long to do this.)

Night and day, I have a better feeling pedal and I now know that the ABS works:w2:

Best $25 I have spent on this truck.

I called advance and autozone and gave them the part number and nothing came up for that part #. Does anyone know, what year this cylinder goes on?

GM part #4637337 one ton rear wheel cylenders

just wondering wouldnt it just be better to go to a junk yard and get the disk set up off of a newer truck? and get rid of the drum brakes all together?

Dr. Evil 01-23-2011 03:31 PM

That an option and probably a better one. But it would be a lot more work and expense. The wheel cylinder upgrade works pretty good and they are like $30-40
