Adding a turbo to my 92 7.3idi

I am wondering what modifications I would have to do to my 1992 7.3idi to fit a turbo from a 1995 powerstroke??

Why would you want that turbo? Over 1.0 a/r turbine housing...if u were going to go as far as a custom turbo set up, choose a better one

Well as far as turbo-ing a N/A motor, I went to international where my diesel instructor works now..... so to start with the turbo motor had bigger wrist pins and pistons, along with a slightly modified head......

N/A the compression ratio is 21.5:1 .... not turbo friendly at all...(from 1988-1994)
the Turbo IDI compression ratio is 17.5:1 .... much better (in 1993)

this major issue is the head.... almost every diesel engine has a combustion bowl (or Quench) is in the piston ..... but the IDI has the Combustion bowl in the head... under boost conditions it can cause the head to lift...causing engine damage(obviously)

The engine block deck on alomst all diesels have what is known as a fire ring.... its a lip that the head gasket sits on... (top lip of the cylinder liner in some cases..like cummins).. wich is far better at sustaining boost.. the IDI dosent have this feature.... so by turbo-ing an IDI.... your taking your chances.... but your gonna loose the battle if you go much over 5-8 psi ....RELIABLY.... ( N/A motors are good for around 500-1million miles if well maintained... turbo IDI's around 500k... some more .. most less).

This is all form the local international dealership..... and 6.9L/7.3L Ford & 6.2L/6.5L GM Diesel Resource | IDI Diesel Specs also.

I doin a lot of work on the engine and I'm not putting a turbo on it I'm putting a supercharger on it instead....

All 7.3 IDIs were 21.5:1 compression ratio, the PSD was 17.5:1!
An IDI at 17.5:1 would be a cold blooded whore.

right..... my bad.. miss quoted... good catch... ur right...i wrote it wrong......

Either way adding any type of atmospheric pressure to these motors is gonna result in a big bang.....at some point... depends how much you go with....6 psi might live for a long time.... any more and its gonna be a short life

my dually was a factory turboed IDI. factory wastegate settings are 8-10 psi. my banks setup is also limited to 10 psi, but will go much higher if i unhook the wastegate.
