i have a 1994 ford f250 with the 7.3l idi ive heard you can fix up the wastegate on the turbo to allow more boost to be made

I know on the ATS setup I have, if you shorten the rod that connects the wastegate valve to the actuator, you can build more boost before the wastegate opens. Do it in small increments though. I shortened my rod 3 turns at a time between test drives until it was where I wanted it.

do u turn the end of the rod to shorten it? and whats the max boost u can get? and is it bad for the engine to turn the boost up? i took a turbo off a 94 and its on my 89 7.3 now if gives some power but i want alil more

do u have gauges in the motor(pyro and boost)? if not, get them first. then play with it.

did u turn up fuel after putting turbo on?

fravelj 09-30-2010 08:13 AM

how do u turn the boost up?

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

im not worried about the gauges

DieselCrawler 09-30-2010 11:50 AM

u will need gauges to turn it up. to far and it will burn up or blow headgaskets. 10-12 psi max for stock headbolts and gaskets.

did u turn your fuel up after installing the turbo? was it turned up before installing turbo?

fravelj 10-03-2010 01:27 PM

i dont need to turn boost up much and no my fuel hasnt been messed with but my friend did it to his and his ran full throttle all the time and blew it up

DieselCrawler 10-03-2010 01:36 PM

if u havent turned up the fuel at all, then u are not getting full usage of the turbo yet. turn your fuel up 2 flats. then report back.

Before you try to adjust it, take the actuator off, the rod is pinned from the factory, you have to take the end off it and run a tap through it before adjusting it, or you'll break it. But do yourself a favor and get some gauges.
