6.9 fuel question

I have a 86 ford single cab long bed 4x4 with a early model banks turbo wich runs great I'm wondering how much I can turn the fuel pump on it without going 0ver 1200-1300 degrees.

Thank you,

-Kody

do u have a pyrometer in it?

if so, turn it up a little bit at a time till she starts tyo get hot, then back down.

turn up, take for drive, turn up, take for drive, to hot now, turn back down a little.

only way to tell is with a pyro. it is normally safe to turn up 1/6th of a turn(one side of the allen wrench. )

Word of advice, dont go half a turn at high elevation with no turbo. Talk about royal pain to pull a hill.

cowboyford16 02-01-2010 12:55 PM

Ok thanks see I live in coarsegold it's bout the center of cali and the elevation is normally about 1200-5000 ft and I do have a banks turbo kit on it, so will I still be able to go up over a half turn or will half turn be the limit?

Hyde 02-01-2010 08:59 PM

Every pump is different on factory calibration so how far you can turn it will vary. Thats not too much in the way of elevation and the turbo kit will help a ton.

cowboyford16 02-02-2010 01:43 PM

Thank you hyde. What type of mods have you done to your truck?

Hyde 02-02-2010 04:16 PM

Just a 14x5 hotrod style air filter and true duals. Plus maximum pump crankage. Its entirely unnecessary n/a but kinda fun unless you are pullin something. I can hit 1300* pretty quick (dont do that). Im tryin to find another IDI truck cheap to rally so I can setup my sequentials on this one (read:blow it up instantly) Hope you have fun with it!

cowboyford16 02-02-2010 07:51 PM

YA I plan on doing a four inch exhaust the hooks on to the banks 3 and a half inch exhaust and coming out before my rear wheel doing a 8 nch tip( Just because you never see a 6.9 with a 8 inch tip haha. And stud the heads get the code"bb" injectors off a 7.3 for more fuel turn up the pump maybe half to a full turn if possible a four inch lift flat bed and do the cab lights but as for my intake I have a set up I'm working on that has never been done before but its a secert when I get that done I'll post and send you some pictures of it so maybe you can get some idea's and follow my wild design haha. Do you think I'm on the right track for some power? And what is a maxium pump crankage and how does that effect your power and pulling?

Hyde 02-02-2010 08:01 PM

Id like to see that intake when you are done. You are on the right track but that banks charger is gonna be out of its efficiency past 15# of boost or so. That just means I turned the pump up as far as I felt safe without breaking the screw off. Power is alright, I cant tow a damn thing though. Had to tow my buddies Fummins one night and hit 1300* in first gear.

cowboyford16 02-02-2010 08:15 PM

Ya no probem man I'll post it as soon as I get done with it. You think it would be possible to twin turbo a 6.9? And thats what I was thinking about for my fuel screw. You think maybe on your truck if you had a four inch exhaust the egt's will be lower or will that not affect it? Is the any other possibilties that you and I can find away to keep are egt's low on a small budget you got any idea's bud??

Hyde 02-03-2010 02:35 PM

It has 2.5 true duals now which is a good amount of flow. As for the twin turbo I plan to try it, well sequential at least. A guy on Oilburners had sequentials with a banks kit into a Powerstroke turbo a while back. A friend of mine did parallel turbos on a 6.2 Chevy so I dont see why we couldnt. EGTs, well a water/meth kit could be pretty cheap, ive been thinkin windshield washer pumps are easy to come by and an intercooler will be a must if you start making any decent boost out of that Banks kit.

cowboyford16 02-03-2010 02:59 PM

YA those do sound like a great idea. Fabbin a intercooler are simple I can send you some of are shops basic plan's if you would like just take tubing and bend and rap in to a rectangular box and put fins on it you know. And I red if you can find a holset turbo they will match up just because the oil lines are the same do you know if that is a 100% true? ANd how would you set up windsheild whiper pumps for a water/meth kit??

Hyde 02-03-2010 03:06 PM

Im pretty sure the Holset has a different mounting pattern, Im not positive though. I have a Holset sitting here if you need some measurements. The washer pump is just a water pump, run it on a switch to a mist nozzle in your intake.

cowboyford16 02-03-2010 07:56 PM

Thanks for all your help and if you can get those measurements I would apperciate it. And ya I talked to some guys and my dad at are shop about the washer pump for the water/meth kit. And if you need any parts like studs we can order some and we get studs for about 200-250. We own a automotive machine shop so if you need stuff just give me a message and we can order some parts but we get the best of the best. And also if you need any cast iron welded or allumium we are one of 8 people in the world you can weld cast iron block and heads and other stuff the right way

Hyde 02-03-2010 08:37 PM

Cool deal mang glad to help, and Ill hit you up first when it comes time to buy studs. Ill grab the measurements on that Holset tomorrow too. Happy IDIing man

cowboyford16 02-04-2010 12:26 PM

Ya man any time. Just glad to help another idi old school ford lover. Do you know what gear ratio's are for the front and rear axels are??

Hyde 02-04-2010 02:08 PM

cowboyford16 02-04-2010 02:16 PM
