Looking for performance

Hi my name is Jared I have been a member for quite a while now and I have not made a post yet. Well now I have a question and knew this would be the best place to get an answer. I have a 92 F250 with the 7.3l idi (non-turbo) it has 160k mi on it reg cab long box and has a western plow on it. With winter getting close I would like to know if anyone has ideas that will increase the proformance of my old diesel. Power wise and if it would blow black exhaust that would be kool to. let me know if u have any ideas that dont cost a lot. thanks :c:

I was told that a turbo would add 40 horse does that sound right?

DieselCrawler 10-08-2009 03:27 PM

turbo will bump it up more done right. stock at the flywheel is around 200 hp. i know my 6.9 at flywheel is 175. with turbo i can be makin 220 at rear wheels.

Did u put a turbo on your 6.9l then? If so was it like night and day or not that big of deal? Thank you for the reply

One other question I bought this truck a few weeks ago and there is new exhaust from the manifolds back including a new muffler will I gain anything for removing the muffler and put on stacks or just making it a straight pipe?:humm:

DieselCrawler 10-08-2009 06:11 PM

not turboed ....yet. i will be installing one. my buddy did it to his 7.3. he did say same thing you just asked. night and day.

straight pipe wont give you much power, will make it louder.

has the restrictor plate been removed yet? remove your air cleaner and look at the intake. u will see that half of it is blocked. remove that. unless your has an older air cleaner and still has the soup bowl looking unit under the lid. cut that off.

I have a question for anyone who has turned up their injection pump on a 7.3l non turbo mine is a 92 I just turned it up and now I have 2 injectors leaking fuel. I would like to know if anyone thinks that turning up the pump is my cause or is it more likely to be old o rings on the injectors. I turned my allen wrench about 1 and a half flats.

Also if someone could tell me how to make a new post instead of adding to this one all the time that would be cool to.

Turning up the pump should not cause your o-rings to leak. It's just a coincidence. I have my pump turned up 2 flats.

There should be a "New Topic" or New Thread" button at the top of the forum.

If you get a turbo, then straight pipe or stack your exhaust. The turbo acts as a muffler and keeps it pretty quiet. N/A will have your truck sounding like a gasser V8 with straight pipes.

there are also a few companies that will re build your pump and/or injectors for a pretty decent price. for a lean mean water meth twin turbo smoke blowin puller rebuild i've seen upto about 900$ but a decent rebuild i've seen about 300$ and the same goes for your injectors if there is a local tractor shop near you that deals with international you should be able to tell them what your after and get some hands on help
