Turbo and Intercooler

Does someone have some pics of how they routed the piping for the intercooler and turbo on their IDI by any chance? I'm thinking about putting a turbo and ic on mine. Thanks!

dont waste your time and money , if you ovedr due the boost your gonna kill the wrist pin in the connecting rod and you will be re-building the engine ... $$$$$$$

I really is a waste of time and cash , put a nice 4" exhaust on it , big airfilter , and install an electric fuel pump @ tank switch feed line set @ 10 psi of fuel feed, and ditch the diaphram pump ( or cut off the excentric arm and use it to plug the hole ) .. be happy and enjoy it being a DD ... i get 20 out of mine

where can i get the electric pump. and do you mean like after the tanks come into one line together? and you mean like the vaccuum pump at the front?

I put my electric pump as close to the tank switch on the only line that feeds the engine, and then ran all new lines to a spereate Bio-glass fuel filter (5 micron ) then to IP...

This is the pump i have , can use a return style regulator if it goes past 10 Psi @ filter housing, andthing over 10 is wasted fuel and will cause issues ( some will say 12 is ok but why push your luck ?? )..

Question for 4x4manonbroke: Is it possible to use conn rods, wrist pins, pistons out of a 94 turbo idi in a 7.3 na engine? I know the wrist pins are larger in the factory turbo block... Would this solve the problem of increased boost?

4x4manonbroke 07-02-2014 03:59 PM

Its more about, issues with the pre chambers, they get hot and fall out or explode in the cylinders as well ...

the other issue is the already high compression and cylinder pressure issues .. @ 21.5:1 and 450-500 psi dry pressure ... when you start adding boost ( more pressure and fuel) your compunding the issue ...

there are companys that preform some really sweet build and have decent power and reliability ....

R&D IDI Performance ... they do have a Cam to bleed off some of the comperssion pressure wich can and does help with the issue of boost ....

I personally have a 4" exhaust system and a huge Air cleaner ... i get around 200 hp and about 500 tq .. 4 spd 3.55's and I pull 20 mpg .... I think for all that its worth , a Turbo is best off on something that can use it like 12V P-pump or VE .. both can make plenty of power and the swap is much more worth it .. My $.02... :c:

Good info on the pre-chambers, i didn't know that...

Is R&D still in business?
I've tried contacting them but no responses.
