6.9 with a 7.3 IP?

I have a 87 6.9 that I bought for a project that I'm going to build. I know what ever I do it won't be a race truck and I'm ok with that. I have a line on a 94 7.3 IP and injectors. What are the differences in the pumps? Is it worth it? I know with the 6.5s there was a hot rod pump. Thanks for any info.

The 7.3 should bolt right on, may have to play with the timings to get it right

TheMacster 03-25-2014 05:41 AM

Yea. From everything that I have read it looks like and Ford/International DB2 will physically bolt up and supposedly the 7.3 pumps deliver more fuel and have a different timing curve. But I guess the injectors were seated differently for emissions, something like .060 out. I guess I'm trying to figure out which pump/injector combo has the most potential.

You need to give Mel Agne a call, very knowledgeable guy, he is the founder of the moose pumps. Tell him what you're looking for, and he can build you a pump and injectors. Will cost a pretty penny though. Search conestogadiesel, that is his company. If you get a moose pump and a good set of injectors from him. You won't look back. Next major think would be mounting a turbo, and running a 4" exhaust for your truck. Running an intercooler is up to you, will only cool the air to what the outside temperature is though, so I don't generally use them since its 110+ degrees here 8 months out of the year. Install a good electric fuel pump and an inline fuel filter also will go a long way. R&D make a cam for idi engines with higher and longer lift durations and have showed enormous improvements in boost capabilities from stock. I would also give them a call or email to see what they can do for you. PM me if you want to contact them. :rocking:

I have read good things about both of those companies. Seems like the R&D guys are kind of reinventing the wheel with the IDI performance from what I understand. I am picking up a sidewinder kit and I will probably run a PSD intercooler. I'll try and contact them through there site and see what they think. The R&D guys seem to be using the 7.3 IPs.

Stray away from places like DPS, horrible customer service.

TheMacster 03-25-2014 08:40 PM

Yea. I definitely have read that too. I think that is the reason why those guys started R&D. I could be wrong. I think I'm going to go with moose pump and injectors and a R&D cam and ARP studs obviously unless someone else makes a better set.

The side winder kit is SOOO over priced ... get the same turbo for nearly half the price .. check out E-bay ... and then have it rebuilt ... way cheeper and money ahead in the long run ...

Dortiz 04-27-2014 12:36 PM

there was a sidewinder on craigslist out here about 2 weeks ago for $240, just needed the exhaust

4x4manonbroke 04-27-2014 05:26 PM

Yeah ... hx35 will plenty and there about 200-300 bucks .... it can make 40psi on my cummins easily ... would need to externially waste gate that bad boy so you dont go past about 12 psi on the IDI .. unless you like to HG's ..... and if thats the case i need your help .>>>> LOL
