84 6.9 idi power

Everyone always asks what they can do to get more power out of there idi's but I never find the right thread. I have an 84 6.9 nothing but stock im not looking to get turbo to damn expensive but im looking for cheap things to get more power out of it I was thinking about a cold air intake system but cant find anywhere that sells it for a 6.9 and I don't know what exhaust system to get straight pipe? glasspaks? or just a 4 or 5 inch tip also what else would be good for small things to get more power.

You have to build you own intake system. Ram Air Intake works best on these old idi's, turn the pump up about 1/8 on the fuel delivery, tweak the timing somewhat, 3.5" - 4" exhaust anything bigger is just for sound effects

I've heard good things about the diamond eye exhaust

If I were to get dual exhaust whats the best way to set it up go true dual with 3.5"-4" or smaller and I would put 5"-6" tips on it how would that work out

3" for duals would be too much I think

How do you build a cold air intake?

Dortiz 03-14-2014 09:14 PM

Most people use pvc piping, but I do not remember what year you'll have to look around, but the ram air kit for a dodge ram fits ours

go from the factory down section ( about 4" from the flange ) then goto 3"... into the Y, form there 4" all the way ....

Put on a big K&N filter ... mine is 14" X 6" ... sounds awesome ( turbo's are not your friend on these engines) .... my oppinion ... had 2 ... sold and kept the N/A

Are you talking about doing a dual intake filter?

4x4manonbroke 04-27-2014 05:27 PM

nope mine is just one big single round K&N 14" filter

the duals are my exhaust sizes :tu:

You could always get the Hypermax cowl kit. It pulls the air from the cowl panel in front of your windshield. You just have to cut a small rectangular hole in your firewall. I did some temp testing when I got mine, Hypermax vs factory tube vs no tube. the Hypermax was definitely cooler. This will connect to your factory round air cleaner housing.
