Looking at used turbos

Just wondering what everybody recommends as far as Turbos go. I can't afford any of these aftermarket kits, so I'm just planning on buying a used Turbocharger, rebuilding it if necessary, and having a shop do all the plumbing. Thing is, I know nothing about turbo sizing and I've been reading alot of tech articles saying that's really key to making the turbo mack with your engine and run smoothly.

I been looking at the stock Garrett 6.0 PSD units (which I CANNOT find a model/designator for), Holset HX35/HX40s, Holset WH1C, Garrett GT37VA, Garrett GT4294, Holset HT60, and Garrett GT35R on craigslist. My question is, what do you guys think would work best on a 6.9 IDI?

No on the 6.0 unit, no way to control the vanes for the VGT. HX35 should work well if you are going to do custom plumbing, that was my original intention when I put the HY35 on mine. Couldnt make the HX work with ATS though uppipe. Good thing about the Holsets is they are fairly common, cheap, and very tough turbos.

I woulod buy a hx35w and put a blow off gate between the turbo and the intake so you dont go past about 12 psi ...

I get 40 psi on my cummins but ... cummins runs 17.5:1 not 21.5:1 compression ratio
