6.7 with DPF removed and a smarty - setting invisible code
I have a 6.7 and pulled the DPF as well as egr and cooler. i have the egr motor still plugged in and ziptied to the side .... everything done correctly as i understood it. About every 500 miles i get the overhead ding ding see dealer now .... after another couple hundred miles it feels like it derates itself .... when i plug in the smart it shows no codes, i clear the no codes and poof back to good to go.
Anyone else have this? |
I would re-check the plugs and connectors you pulled and make sure you got them all, and not pull one you need like the EGR motor.
|
rechecked, found no issues.
I will just continue clearing the code. i have seen a few other complaints about this. |
what version are you running. i still get the overhead but not that often.
|
I get the same thing
I get the phantom as well. I just reset the invisible code using the smarty and it is ok for another several hundred miles.
I wish I would not have to though.:humm: |
I've had the "See Dealer" message come up one time in the 20Kmiles I've racked up since my deletes. I cleared it and it hasn't come back. For what it's worth, I'm running 14ME. I never noticed a loss of power at all when it did come up though.
|
mine will start to lose power after about 2 weeks of not clearing it. The wife drives it everyday .... i know because she tells me the dodge is getting slower and slower ... i will clear it and she notices right away.
we had similar power issues when running the H&S sims, before the smarty ... ---AutoMerged DoublePost--- I got a pm from diesel pap, basicly asking me to go over what i have done ... as i was doing my run down of explaining i came to the pressure sensor. Now, i have the plumbing removed BUT had the sensor still plugged in. I just now unplugged it. Perhaps this is where i went wrong ? |
call me anytime. maybe i can help:tu:
|
Which pressure sensor are you referring to?
|
The one with the 2 hoses coming off it. Up against the floorboard.
Light came on immediatly with it unplugged ... plugged back in, cleared the code ... gonna leave it alone. I am thinking of going with a bullydog watchdog, that should clear the code whenever i want it to and get a nice display as well. |
Ah, the DPF delta sensor.. That needs to be plugged in.
What is this phantom code you are referring to? is there a number with it? I have not seen a single blip on mine since I installed it per MADS instructions with only the Delete pipe for the cat/dpf. I do have the O2 sensor still hooked up. With the power derate you are describing, it seems like the EGR motor is not getting sensed. That gives a 40hp derate. |
no codes at all, just a dinging overhead ....
once i "clear codes" when there aren't any in there, it's all better and goes back to it's normal self. |
huh.. Thats odd...:humm:
|
i dont never get it either i totally took my egr motor off dont notice a diff in power but in the mornings my truck shows the water in fuel light and it dings and says see dealer im on like my 3rd tank of fuel from diff places changed filter checked the plug i dunno what the deal is :bomb21:
|
i got an 07 with the 6.7L and i cut everything off but the dpf and i get a check engine light and the cat 100% sign up top and a decrease in power and every now and then an extreme decrease in power and just rolls black smoke out for bout the first 3 gears. Would getting a smarty to fool the computer to think the cat is still there fix all of this? and also it had an edge juice with attitude on it but i hated it and took it off, couldnt tell a power differance at all.

08 3500 ram 6.7 manual shift. used commercially. 167K, dpf/ egr delete. k/n air filter free flow exhaust. smarty tuner running level 3. same problem here see dealer now in over head. always happens when fuel gauge goes just under half tank. happens nearly every time. noticable miss like running out of fuel. on acceleration black smoke comming from exaust noticable power loss. fuel up run okay but not back to 100% until I reset see dealer now service required. You do this by turning the key on do not start then tapping brake two times then accelerator two times with in 10 seconds. then turn key off for about 30 sec. this resets see dealer now light. then runs great until needle drops below half tank same cr---p again. any one know how to correct this glitch?? real pain and dangerous when loaded and gong up hill and the tining just quits for several seconds let off accelerator then it catches back up ten light comes on on over head. this is getting real , please help dthanks
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- 08 ram 6.7 mega cab. same deletes smarty tuner running level 3 free flow exhaust. Mine does it when fuel drops below half tank nearly every time. power loss, black smoke. overhead see dealer now service requierd light on and dinging |
if you dont notice a power difference with the edge its prolly cause your trucks going into limp mode or not hooked up corectly or not getting good conection somewhere cause i got the edge on mine and i can notice a difference on each setting not sure but just a thought if you put the smarty s67 me should solve your prob im runnig code free also if your truck is cutting out and or when it smokes lose power my truck was doing hat kinda and i put new injectors turbo and ended up being the throttle blade in the driver side of the motor i just bought a delete kit for that and probs solved might try that ??:c:
|
reply
thanks, but if it is throttle blade, why would filling up fuel and reset cure it??
|
i think you have multiple issues hl
black smoke means unburned fuel. I don't get smoke. could be your throttle blade closing partially... just odd that yours does it whenever you are below 1/2 tank. |
I believe it has something to do with the ECM regen timer. if the truck doesn't regen within a certain timeframe the computer is supposed to initiate an active regen but can't due to not seeing the values it requires to do so.
|
Wow, this really makes me not want a smarty.:td:
|
Have you talked to Bob Wagner or Marco (I believe it is at Mads Electronics)??
|
DPF / FAP removal
if you have problems with DPF / FAP i can easily help you to remove it, it basically needs the ecu soft to be modified and it will no longer make problems. i know how a pain in the a*s can be
|
smarty has released a new version to help with the overhead.
|
seems alot of guys with the smarty get the over head, it could be a few things, make sure your follow the instructions on what is hooked up and what is not hooked up. Pretty much every sensor comes off, and if you are worried about getting water, mud, etc into them rollin smoke diesel has connectors that plug into them. Its always best to make sure you have the newest up date with the smarty also. As for the guy with the edge, you are derated and in limp mode, if you pull any of the exhaust off with out a programmer to disable the emmissions you have to have the fooler sims plugged in and have the edge set to clear codes on start up. 99% of the time when you do go into limp mods you will have to go to the dealer to have them reset all he counts, etc to get it back to normal, but if not done proper then it will go back into limp mode.

Not trying to insult anybody but are the connectors that are unplugged capped off or "water proofed" some how. Just think that moisture or some other crap could be sorting them out.
|
23me download, fwiw i have not got the code since changing to 21me

you are not supposed to plug them they need air to operate correctly |
it was prolly cause your truck was getting put into limp mode why u didnt notice a power difference and all the smoke cause its trying to clean the dpf just a question why did you leave your dpf if you try and fool it with the dpf in place i bet it will end up plugging up and your just going to lose power anyways i think ur best bet would be do the delete and egr and cooler delete and throttle valve delete i would bet your probs are the dpf just trying to clean it all the time and staying in limp mode let me know what you figure out
