Can some one explain to me the reason for removing the butterfly? Does this really need to be done? What are the advantages/disadvantages of removing/leaving it? I understand on some 08's they don't like this much.

Yes you need a programmer and a DPF delete to properly run the EGR delete I beleive.

Here are the SMARTY EGR delete instructions.

In the newer flashes and newer trucks the butterfly valve does not need to be removed. Truck actually prefers it to be in. You dont need a programmer but will have a CEL if you do not. You also dont have to have the DPF deleted but its recommended.

I have a 07.5 cummins that i just installed a dpf delete along with the edge race programmer and when i ease into the throttle it sounds like this valve is opening and closing real quick, could this be my problem and how much of an advantage will i gain by putting an egr/cooler delete in my truck?
