Amazing mpg on my stock truck..

Over a span of the first 6,500 miles I have averaged 21.6mpg. Half of this mileage towing 12,000lbs. I'm more than impressed with these results. I can only imagine the possibilities if I could remove the emissions controls that waste fuel..

Bigg Redd 07-04-2014 08:06 PM

What are you basing your mileage on, hand calculations, or the over head lie-o-meter?

Gearheadfred 07-05-2014 07:06 AM

Hand calculation. I also use the cruise control as much as possible. The computer is always pretty close to the manual calculation however.

Bigg Redd 07-05-2014 05:38 PM

That seems to be a bit generous, especially with only 6500 miles on the engine, and all emissions trash still hooked up. :nope:The engine is far from being broken in at this point. Fuel mileage will get better as the engine gradually breaks in. The skeptic in me is rearing its ugly head.:humm:

dieselbomb87 08-09-2014 05:02 PM

does sound a bit over the top. I average 16.5 mega cab dually 4x4

Bigg Redd 08-09-2014 10:51 PM

Ive heard that really good fuel mileage can be had from a 6.7 cummins with all of the available deletes for that engine. Seems like a hell of a lot of work to do to get it, and pricey.

AHolt 08-10-2014 08:46 AM

You don't say if truck is 2wd or 4x4.
I find it hard to believe if truck is 4x4.

tecumseh 08-12-2014 01:57 PM

Stock 2012 Cummins, 4x4, Crew Cab - 20.1 MPG

Here is a sample of the MPG I received after they flashed my computer with the latest EPA patch... I asked them NOT to do this and someone screw up and did it anyways at the dealership. Note, I am getting 12-13 MPG in city. I am having problems uploading my picture thought it shows 20.1 MPG.

gunman41mag 08-12-2014 08:20 PM

I can't get those MPG with my 2008 F-250 2WD with dpf deletes:nope:

Maybe down hill, with a strong tailwind.....:w2:

RAW 08-13-2014 06:23 PM

I have a 2014 as well, and am very impressed with the stock mileage. 3.42 ratio helps when unloaded, but I do have to limit my trans to 5th when pulling, otherwise it shifts a bit crazy. Engine spins a low 1500RPM at 75ish MPH.

These truck also have the axle hub disconnect system in them, and I have heard that will have gains up to 1 MPG.

My computer has shown 24 MPG empty down the hiway, and about 13 MPG with a 8,000lb holiday trailer in tow, and a quad in the box. If I didn't have a heavy foot to get to my favorite spot, and all the slow hills and turns to get there, the 13MPG would go up significantly.

Bigg Redd 08-13-2014 10:41 PM

Damn. maybe I should upgrade.......:humm:

RAW 08-13-2014 11:12 PM

Don't if your looking to Mod your truck, at least not the 13/14 trucks. Can't delete emissions, 3 electronic power adders, intake, and emissions back exhaust is all you can do at this time.

Bigg Redd 08-14-2014 12:09 PM

Thats good to know. Ive been bouncing around the idea of selling my supercharged chevy dually, and getting another dodge ctd. Maybe in the 10-12 range. THat chevy of mine is a thirsty son-of-a-buck!:nope:

okraman 08-20-2014 05:37 PM

I've had my 2014 Ram CTD for 2 months. On a trip last weekend I averaged 20.4 mpg (hand calculated). The inboard computer was saying 24 mpg. The best I've done towing is 11.5 mpg. Towing appx. 9600 lb travel trailer.

Bigg Redd 08-20-2014 06:29 PM

Yeah, ya cant really rely on that overhead gizmo. My absolute best mileage, doing 65 mph, was a GPS corrected 22.5 mpg. I think thats fantastic for a dually with a snug-top shell, and running empty. That was on a 1100 mile round trip. The overhead was indicating a steady 25.2 mpg. Way optimistic! Sure would be nice though.........

Supremedragonx 09-08-2014 08:22 AM

My Dodge ram 2500 6.7 full stock.. I drove on the highway 95% almost 20 miles..

I think best drive 65mph about 1500 to 1600 rpm.. get 18-19 mpg. City 13 to 14 mpg I do hand calculated.

Gas station walmart diesel

planning to delete kit soon :)

Bigg Redd 09-08-2014 10:40 AM

THats not too bad for that big 6.7 bro.

dieselbomb87 09-08-2014 11:32 AM

I have my mega cab dually 4x4 with full bumper brushguard and full wrap around bumper. I have a toolbox headrack and 100g tank filled. fully deleted dpf and egr. I average about 17 taking her on a trip probably about 500miles to san antonio tx. I ll let you know my mileage. Went to get my truck weight and she weighted out at over 15kunloaded? is that right? sounds a bit heavy....

Bigg Redd 09-08-2014 06:01 PM

That weight reminds me of my former mother-in-law. Diet time!:w2:

dieselbomb87 09-10-2014 11:06 AM

Updated total trip miles 642 miles going 80mph towing a bumper trailer with about 3k lbs on it only got 14mpg:dang:

Bigg Redd 09-10-2014 12:56 PM

80mpg?!?! Were the trailer wheels even touching the ground? Any faster, you'll need a pilots license. Still, at that speed, 14mpg isnt bad.........

Supremedragonx 09-10-2014 08:37 PM

Finally I got flo pro delete box never open brand new. Just $75 :) cause he has 2011 as Insurance when EPA cracked sown on h&s

Just out of curiosity are you running the stock manifold? I recently switched to a 2 peice manifold for my 07 from DPS and I got a bump in mpgs by 3. According to DPS I can go up to a twin compound sitch and increase HP and mpgs.... slightly on the MGPs. You can call them just for the info and they are awesome (Diesel Power Source.)

I think they may have towing twins. I've had zero probs since switching btw.

Bigg Redd 09-30-2014 08:33 AM

Im running a stock ported manifold. When/if this manifold cracks, I'll get an aftermarket one. For now, so far so good............

boostlife 09-30-2014 11:52 AM

I didn't read through the entire post, but what turbo are you running?

boostlife 09-30-2014 12:07 PM

Continued....

If you don't care about your removing you emmissions, then go to a twin kit. It will monkey stomp a single turbo all day and you will feel like a true man. As mentioned before. DPS has a twin kit for a killer price, doesn't leak oil and bolts right on. No mods needed. Call them. Brett is their tech... not matt. I was green to this whole thing until I talked to them. My MPGs are mre than decent while smoking any crotch rocket that pulls up beside me.

Just sayin'. Call em out of curiosity.

amztroyer 02-15-2015 04:14 PM

Has anyone bypassed the DPF with pipe, that way when emissions tests come up you could switch the bypass off and pass the test than switch it back when you leave?:w2:

El Pozzinator 02-17-2015 06:20 AM

While my 06 was in the shop for a month, I had a 2014 Ram 2500 CC 4x4 as a rental from Enterprise (grocery store was paying for it, as a cart blew out in the road and hit my truck). Over the course of the month I had their truck, I pulled a hand-calculated 21.5 mpg combined. Picked the truck up with 1,2xx miles on it, turned it back in with 2,7xx. Always drove the way I drove my 06 (kept it out of OD on the back roads under 50 mph). Obviously, since it's a rental, all the enviro-nazi gear was in place.

If you drive them conservatively, they'll do it.

Caveat: I burned thru half a tank of DEF in that 1500-ish miles, and the tank is "supposed" to last approx 5000 miles. No biggie, when the local Pilot station had it at the pump for $2.35/gal (about half the price of the gas station gallons).

6.7hog 06-09-2015 09:38 PM

Really??

I average 19 and 20 on lots of trips in the first 5000 miles however I doubt your overall is 21+ mine clearly says 16.7 overall
