No start

So my truck has had a occasional shudder climbing hills or under load since day one not sure if it's related. Today it won't start cranks over and wants to start but won't quite get there. When I turn the key on to prime there is a rattle would that be the lift pump? It also rattles when I key off. Is there a way to test the lift pump without a scan tool?
Thanks in advance?

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge?

double ought 04-10-2012 03:56 PM

unfortunately no

I would suggest that first, then if it is your lift pump, possibly upgrading to an after market frame mounted model.

Ok thanks I will start there!

just pull the line off the fuel filter housing turn the key on. its going to make a mess if it is working. but it will let you know if its working or not. but the lift pump is a good upgrade either way. also something to check is the fuel pressure regulator on the rail:tu:

update, i have rail pressure so that means i got fuel so ip pretty sure that means injectors. any reccomendations for something else to check or a good place to get a decent price on injectors or which injectors to run i will also be putting in head studs at this juncture

i ended up sending in my injectiors, they were scarred up so that means somehow junk is getting through my fuel filter right? is there a better brand of filter or what are you all doing.... or do i need to just bite another bullet and get an airdog?

the good news is my injectors are on the way back haha

Air dog or fass systems are a good thing to have the factory pumps aren't very reliable and also you can get them with filters for better filtering
