25.6 miles per gallon

Just went 300 miles gettin over 25 mpg out of a 4x4 dually sweet

vcustoms86 03-27-2012 03:18 PM

Hand calculated or are you going off the overhead? If its the overhead dont trust it. The third gen ones are far from actual mpgs.

2004LB7 03-27-2012 10:59 PM

^^ 2X.

we need hand calc from fill up and miles

What's your frustration? Just curious, 25.6 mpg seems alright to me, especially with a large dually, maybe we can help your truck improve if that's the problem:c:.

:lol88: That won't be necessary.... If I pay attention to my driving I can get 99 mpg :rocking:

Eddiebuntain 03-28-2012 09:08 AM

Cool, I just didn't know what point you were trying to communicate with the:argh:

Are you serious? 25.6 mpg in a 6.7 dually 4x4 seems like a good number?

Yes please explain this. Especially in a large dually? 25.6 in a dually is very, very wishful thinking.

What mods has he done? How fast was he going and on what terrain? Tailwind? With the right mods and smart driving, 25 or 30 mpg should be no problem on level highway. If he's pulling a bunch of weight or going up and down hills alot that'll suffer, as it will in stop and go driving, but you shouldn't dismiss it just because you don’t get the same milage on your way to the mall during rush hour.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Sorry about the trolls comment, not a great day, I overreacted.

Sorry about the trolls comment, not a great day, I overreacted.

no malls close enough for me to go to, so wouldn't know about mpg during those trips.

Do you own/drive a 6.7CTD on a regular basis? 25-30 mpg with a 4x4 dually with this motor is flat out a lie. (unless you do a lot of downhill coasting in neutral with the motor off.)

No problem on a level highway? First off, the front axle is constantly dragging, as there are no hub lockouts. Plus the 2 extra tires vs a SRW truck...etc.

However, I haven't considered the possibility that the OP may have figured out a way to make his 6.7 a hybrid....:humm: For some reason I highly doubt that.....

:c:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

You might be surprised by the age of some members on these diesel forums....Not everyone bought a diesel to "rice" around.....

Eddiebuntain 03-28-2012 11:15 AM

Age has nothing to do with it.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Again, has he modified his rig? Freespin hub kits are available, highway tires at max pressure will add less rolling resistance than A/Ts or mud tires at lower pressure, aerodynamics can be improved, computer and mechanical tunes can improve efficiency. I'm not saying his numbers are accurate, but unless he posted more info while I'm writing this, we don’t know his methods. An " argh " emoticon doesn't further the conversation.

vcustoms86 03-28-2012 01:06 PM

I have a 6.7 and 24v. 25 mpg out a Cummins 4x4 Dually is far from reality. You can do free spin hub kits, electric fans, and any other trick to a one ton dually and it wont get 25mpg. Anyone that has been around diesels long enough knows that 25mpg is a reach for a 2wd let alone a 4x4 dually.

Eddiebuntain 03-28-2012 01:21 PM

Hey boilerdonkey, sorry for hijacking your thread with our pissing match. As was stated earlier in the conversation, the overhead display fuel economy readout is generally rather optimistic, especially on these trucks, so you'll have to divide the miles driven by the gallons consumed to get an accurate fuel economy figure. Diesel tends to form a foam when dispensed into the tank, so you'll have to give it time to settle and top it off slowly to get the tank to a consistent level for accurate calculations.

Nope I don’t. My gas burner gets decent fuel economy empty, everybody says diesels are more efficient, I guess they lie.:w2:

Who would anyone buy a diesel 4x4 dually for fuel economy...:humm:

The capability/necessity to tow heavy......yes

Fuel economy?...:nope:

boosted90saleen 03-31-2012 09:09 PM

Guess donkey boy got what he wanted a rise out of everyone... :jump: I wouldn't have waisted that much time on his thread due to the fact of lack of response on his part, I believe both sides have excellent points but really 25.9???? far fetched!!!!

Vcustoms86_ Love the avatar!!!!!! where can I get me those???? LOL!!!!

08Ram2500 04-08-2012 11:40 PM

I've gotten that good but I don't think it could happen on a 6.7 dully. I've got a 3/4 ton and got 26 on my way to/from my sisters in Lubbock. Running right at 70 all the way. I've had a best of 28 but that was with a tail wind.

vcustoms86 04-09-2012 09:58 AM

Is this going off the overhead or hand calculated?

2004LB7 04-09-2012 10:06 AM

^^ 2x

26 MPG at 70! that's a little hard to believe

diesel pap 04-09-2012 10:53 AM

i get 22-23 with my 08 2500 6.7 3.73 gears. the over head reads about a mile more than i get. i have seen these overheads crazy as hoot owls but both ways on the neg and over. :tu:

You don't have to my wallet and truck prove it every day.

boilerdonkey 04-10-2012 12:29 AM

I have egr delete xrt pro turbo back it ran great until I put the egr delete on now it whistles @ 1800 rpms I don't know if anything is wrong but before that it was great

2004LB7 04-10-2012 12:59 AM

no i dont

i am not saying its impossible, just pointing out that with the average statistics you would be in the less then 0.001% category with MPGs like that

some will get 22~23 on the highway but most will never get that high. exceeding it is a rare bird indeed and will require more proof then an internet post to be believable

no hard feelings, just pointing out that i am in disbelief about those numbers

boilerdonkey 04-10-2012 01:11 AM

It's cool man I was on some rolling hills and takin it easy I calculated it and was right on level ground right over 20

Horse Power 04-19-2012 03:06 PM

When my wife drives my truck she can pull some great MPG out of my 08 6.7 SRW 4x4 2500. 20 t0 24 mpg.

peters0756 05-02-2012 01:31 PM

Those are some great MPG's for sure. My 2007.5 got better mpg's than my 2011 does by far but still nothing like what your talking about. Mine are both stock although the 2007.5 is gone. The 2011 gets 10 to10.5 empty or towing, doen't seam to make any difference. I'm towing a fifth wheel weighing about 10'000 lbs, same trailer with both trucks. The 2007.5 would get 17 to 18 mpg empty and about 12.5 towing all hand calculated. I am really disapointed in the 2011 for mpg but other than that it's a great truck to drive and tow with.

Rail 05-09-2012 06:36 AM

hmmmmm?

West slope of colorado over the divide to Denver, hot day, 400 miles filled up with 17.5, that's 22.8 mpg. EGR and DPF deletes, 6in pipe, Black Maxx, 285- 17 tires heavy on the nitrogen, K&N intake, Amzoil, and prayer. no load, just toolbox and luggage. :jump:
Dually doing more than that? hmmmmm? :w2: I'm a seer and believer, but I wouldn't trust the overhead for the direction and temp let alone fuel mileage. :c:

CCC1971 05-19-2012 12:00 AM

Almost 25 not pulling, stock tires @ 80 all around, completely deleted, single wheel, driving solo. I also kept it under 70 the whole time and used CC; doing great until I hit that damned GA construction traffic:dang::argh: With being a DD 18-20 is my usual average; even using the overhead I saw averages go up by 4-5 after the deletes. Hard to hand calculate right now because of the way our tanks our vented and can never get an acurate measure of how much I put in; putting in a GDP vent kit this summer to remedy that.

Personally, with my driving style, I might be lucky to see 15 out of a dually if I owned one (right foot likes to play too much).

Big Earl 05-30-2012 07:41 PM

2500 4x4 50,000 automatic with deletes, I have extra 60 gal tank in the bed. I made a road trip pulled 32ft travel trailer for about 125 miles, then traveled another 1200 miles,in and out of town to work etc, hand calculated got 18.2 MPG avg. I would say not too bad..:jump:

nebrs13 07-09-2012 10:02 PM

Me. and a buddy got 28-32 omaha to topeka with a bully dog i believe and pulling a 2 car trailer with
A 240sx behind it 55-65 mph. 08 dually i believe

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Most of the way was 500-1000 ft above sea level

Ltk 07-10-2012 01:17 AM

is this a pissing match to see who can claim the best mpg?

well i got 42 mpg towing a 15k trailer uphill driving into the wind in a dually with 35" mud tires on it :rocking:

not..

Doesn't do much for your credibility here....

Dominion7 07-11-2012 08:05 AM

I was lucky to get 21 in my 08 stroker 4X4, that number does seem a little high for a dually 4X4...just sayin...:pca1:
