Bad Idea or good to cut it out?

Bad idea iit actually serves a purpose on the vgt turbo not like the older turbos I have heqrd of ppl loosing boost and power from removing it

I know what its suppose to do. Do you have any first hand experince removing the ring on the vgt turbo Or just with your foreign junk? I don't cause I read enough from ppl that had first hand experice most of them with the vgt turbos complained of problems. Now there was a couple that said they didnt notice any bad things. Removing the ring is not going to make it flow that much better your boost is gonna go down. if it was flowing better your going to gain power not lose. The turbo is going to only flow so much and the ring isn't going to cause that much more air to flow when removed. Its not like its clogging the turbo. I know you have prolly removed a 1000 of them.

I have never claimed to know everything about a turbo . I know I don't. There has been alot of these threads like this and 90% of the guys have nothing good to say about removeing it on th 6.7. One of the diesel magizinesdid awrite up on removing it. If i rrmember right they was on a dyno and no power was lost or gained by removing just noise. But that was a 5.9. I never said anything about the ring being beneficial on every turbo. I understand they are put there for noise such as you said. But if it was going to lose in places by removeing it. Wouldnt the 5.9s be losing in the same places as the 6.7?

i just think its weird alot of the guys that a have done it say a noticeable loss. thats why i never tried it. there were more bad said about it then good . so i waited till i could get a turbo and gain all the way around.

hi all, i have question for you...... if you run the exhaust brake almost all the time will it fry the turbo? i was told once that it should only be used for downhill while loaded heavy. Any imput would be great, i am on the 3rd turbo, thanks warranty lol

The silencer ring can be removed without any detrimental effects. As is name says, its only a silencer ring. Its an optional piece on all MWE turbos. Look at all the applications Holsets are used in, some have a ring and some don't. Those that do are usually either used for or around people, like buses, short-haul trucks and generators.

steelers, use it only when needed. Brake pads are cheaper than a turbo. Also, delete the DPF and EGR and you won't kill any more turbos.

its not going to hurt it running it all the time. i ran mine every mile until i changed the turbo 78k. no i didnt change it cause it was bad. if your running dpf and egr and cant do the deletes for what ever reason. its actually recomended to run it all the time. it helps clean out the emissions b.s.

No it doesn't. The silencer ring is only that, a noise control device. The same as the baffle in the intake tube.
Haven't heard any complaints of reduced power when people that that out!
