Regeneration questions.
I`m new to diesel motors and have purchased a 2007 2500 with a 6.7l. The regeneration process with the DPF is something I need to learn about. I have several questions any help would be greatly appreciated.
1. Can a certain amount of highway driving without a load allow the regen process to work? 2. Will warming up the truck at idle on cold mornings cause the DPF to fail? 3. If my driving habits won"t allow for the regen process to work properly I"m considering a Smarty Jr DPF delete with a straight pipe. Is this a simple process that can be switched back to stock for yearly emission testing? If so can anyone give a quick tutorial or a link to one? |
If you go to you tube search for dpf removal on a dodge.before I deleted mine I would have to drive it on the hwy.for about 20min for regeneration process.I bought a smarty jr.with dpf delete program and a delete stick.that process took about 20min to install I also did egr cooler delete that was a little more complicated. But you can probly get away leaving yours on.Thoroughbred diesel. Has great prices and can get you lined out on what you need.

I would seriously look at deleting the EGR system as well as the DPF.
You have no idea how much crap (carbon, soot, etc.) you are pumping through that engine. IMHO I don't think we will see the same kind of longevity out of the 6.7 engine with full emissions package as we will out of the older non-EGR engines. |
Thanks for the help gentlemen. The biggest problem I'm facing is that I have to register this truck where yearly emissions inspections and testing are required. Once I do these deletes how hard is it to get the truck back to stock and running properly to pass an emission test? Returning everything to stock and then having a bunch of codes and a cel could be a yearly pain in the butt. Has anyone returned their truck to stock for warranty work or emission testing?

if i were u i would get the smarty like your thinking get the delete pipe the delete pipe is really simple swap it will bolt up where the dpf bolts and slip into your factory tail pipe just like the dpf did and just block off the egr so it stays in place but cant flow and it will remain to look factory and would be ez to install/ remove :tu:

Thanks guys you have all been a big help. One last question, am I going to get enough smoke to attract attention from the police?
|
You wont get hardly any smoke unless you really put your food into it.
