turbo spooling up or clutch?

I bought (new) a 2009 Dodge Cummins 2500 Diesel, 34K miles, 6 speed standard transmission 3.42 Axle Ratio. I've driven standards all my life, so i know how to drive a standard and not abuse a clutch. It usually happens when I'm in 4-6 gears, but when I'm above 1500RPM and really get into the throttle, you can hear the turbo spool up. the problem I'm having is the RPM's shoot way up (usually jump 1K+), you hear the turbo wind up and without getting out of the throttle, it spools back down to where the turbo sounds 'normal'. i can't tell if it's the turbo not engaging when it's supposed to or over revving, or if it truly is the clutch. everything that's not cosmetic is stock on this truck. we're not resting our foot on the clutch pedal, we don't abuse our truck in any way, we like it and baby the hell out of it. but this has been going on for about 6 months now, not getting any better or worse, wanted to get your opinion before the dealership tried to blindside me with their usual BS!! Thanks

Sounds like your clutch is slipping.

yea i agree with luke....mine would do that...some people have had to replace the clutches in these trucks as early as 10k miles...mine made it to 93k...but it was slippin at 75k...i just babied it the longest i could til i could get a clutch....and that was hell pullin heavy loads.

mine did it at 80,000,ive been babying it know i have 145,000 and its on its last leg.but i run hot shot pulling gooseneck with it. but its held up even with 19,000 on piggy back.:tu:

clutch slip sounds like replced mine at 15k went to a single south bend smoked it about 50k now got double south bend i would stay away from the stock clutch if u replce it (dodge prolly wont replace it wouldnt replace mine at 15) and get a south bend single disk clutch if you dont have big plans for the truck just pulling trailers and such just my thought:c:

rpm is jumping without gaining speed? Also these are vgt turbos that will change blade pitch under certain conditions to aid spooling... More info please
