07 6.7 cummins with a P2563 code
Does any one know what's the most likely cause of this code? It's intermittent and when it comes on the truck has no power and blows black smoke.
Thanks |

It is a problem with the electronics on the side of the turbo. I imagine the turbo is sooted up and not happy with life. Have you deleted the EGR? I would suggest removing the turbo and cleaning the heck out of it with brake cleaner. The clear the code if you can and see if it works. I've seen this code many times and that was how I fixed it. |
Thanks, I'll try that. No the EGR is still intact. If I'm removing the turbo I'll probably replace it rather than clean it. I work for a fleet, and the cost of downtime is way more than a turbo for us.
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- One thought, would the EGR delete help stop the turbo from getting sooted up? If so I may be able to get the big boss to let me start doing some mods on our trucks. |
mine sooted up till i deleted the egr. never have that problem now
|
Yup! There you go! That is the whole point of the EGR delete! No more soot in the turbo or the intake!
|
My boss sent the truck to a local dealer, they "cleaned" the turbo and returned it to us. Evidently this is common, they covered it under warranty. They installed a "turbo cleanout plug"
Thanks for the replies guys |
Surprise surprise, the truck is acting up again! Maybe I can get some mods on this baby after all!!
|
Yea the dealer cleaning them is a waste they just drill and tap the compressor housing so they can flush it, usually only lasts a few days. Get your boss to do complete EGR deletes on the trucks and you will both be surprised how much better they will run.
