Upgrading to 19.5 tires

Going to need tires soon and have heard that there are kits to change from 17 in wheels to 19.5. Who has them how much and what kind of success has anyone had? And which tires has anyone used?

Do you tow and haul heavy all the time?

CrazyLadysHubby 08-04-2010 03:17 PM

Yes. The majority of the time Im pulling a 34ft gooseneck weighing somewhere between 12-15k lbs. Future plans will be a 40ft and upwards of 20-25k lbs

Then you are a perfect candidate for a 19.5 upgrade!

There's at least three companies making these, I like Rickson...

Rickson Wheel Manufacturing

Wondering if I should go to the 6.75 rims or stay with the 6" rims? Who are the other manufacturers? Is there anything else I have to do besides recalibrate my speedo for the new tires?

Here's another vendor. I think there's at least one more, but I forget who they are:

American Force Custom Dually Truck Wheels and Rims

Tire size correction is easy with a Smarty. The Dodge Starscan recently became more limited to the max tire size they can program, but I don't remember all the details. They don't have to be that much larger diameter than stock, depending on the aspect ratio. But sizing is something you are just going to have to decide on for yourself. I wouldn't try going too big pulling heavy.

american eagle alloys makes a direct bolt up, i have them. i love them. i run a hankook all terrain tire on the rear and have dynatrac closed shouldered tires for the drive tires on the front. i ran hercules when i bought the wheels, i dont recommend them. either continental, hankook, michelin, toyo, and goodyear are the most popular tires. also once you wear them down you can have them regrooved for $20 a tire. check my photos out on my profile. i paid 3500 for rims, tires, and center caps when i bought my wheels. i got them though discount tire co. the mounting and balancing was expensive, it cost 300 bucks just to have it done.
