Need Some Advice Please

Howdy Everyone,

Could I get some thoughts thrown in on this?

I bought my 6.7 cummins used at around 47K miles. I drove it stock for however long, and I was getting around 21 mpg. ( It is a 6 spd). I put an Edge Juice w/ Attitude (Bought hot unlock) and I still get around 21 mpg. It just doesn't seem to me like I'm gettin the full 100HP from the hot unlock. I had some crazy idea that the edge could be fighting over a previous tune on the truck? Is that possible since the Edge only modifies fueling parameters and doesn't actually "program" the trucks ECM? It was just a crazy thought I had that maybe someone could shine some light on and help a diesel noob.....

I say this because I raced a feller in town that has a 5.9 Cummins with a Smarty. He ran his on 90 w/ added timing. Im not sure of the rest of his settings. He pretty much pulled off and left me in the dust. Surely my Edge can't be letting me down that bad. :humm:

Any thoughts and comments would be MUCH appreciated.

Thanks, CountryBoyCummins.

there are alot of thing to be considered here 1st off was the truck you raced an auto or manual the reason I say that is the auto shift much faster ,and tend to be faster in a race from a stop situation etxblue ram has 450hp with a auto and I have 600 (fuel only) with a manual he can beat me in a 8th mile by about a 10th of a second second off the edge and the smarty are two different animals as far as even the same hp levels go for example on my blackmaxx I can run the 175 hotdamn instead of the 175 mild tune (both make around the same on the dyno) ,but the 175 hotdamn builds boost much faster and end the end runs a faster time down the track than the mild setting. I would imagine he is running a setting where he has timeing along with fuel on his truck sure the power is the same ,but his truck my build boost much faster than yours. also just a question here are yall running the same model trucks as far as cab legth. IMO I dont think your programmer is fighting another ,but I do thing the smartys tune is superior to the edge even if the hp is matched. Just a though hope it helps bud:tu:

my 6.7 stock got 13 mpg without smarty and dpf delete. after deletes over 20 mpg. i must be missing something.

It had a DPF delete when I bought the truck, but no EGR delete. It didn't have a programmer on it when I bought it, just AFE intake on it. I'm just trying to say, could it have been programmed, sold to dealer, then I bought while it has a mileage tune on it and the edge is modifying the fueling over the previous tune?

sounds like it had a tune on it when ya bought it....

how was the dpf deleted (did u have a cel are there simms ? was the egr unplugged ? is the plunger still in the egr ?)

fwiw my manual with 4.10s got 14-15 before mods listed below, it got 20-21 before my new clutch, now its getting 18-19

dont boost too much power with the g-56 you will be needing a new clutch

CountryBoyCummins 08-23-2010 09:21 PM

Yes, the CEL is on. Someone said its probably in limp mode. I've read I will need a smarty to clear it, because I cant get my edge to clear the CEL. Whoever did the DPF delete on this truck didnt put any SIMS on it, they just chopped em off. What do I need to do to fix ALL of this? Buy a DPF/Straight pipe kit?
