Engine oil

Has anyone used a non-cj4 compliant oil in their 6.7 ? I had heard that the cj4 oil is better for the environment, but worse for the engine.

I'm running CJ-4 with no problems. Don't believe everything you hear. They wouldn't sell it if it harmed your truck.

CJ-4 is a low ash oil, meaning it won't plug up your emissions system as bad should there be a little oil burnage.

If you have a 6.7 and the stock emissions are intact, you had better be running CJ-4 or trouble with the DPF will be on the way. CJ-4 is a low ash oil.

The newer CJ-4 oils are actually really good oils. They outperform the older oils in many respects. The only setback was the lower SAPS required for emission purposes and this in turn decrease the TBN numbers on these oils. All that means is they may not last as long in terms of acid fighting abilities. The TBN is an important value in oil analysis that lets you know what kind of life you have left in the oil.
So far these are performing very well and you can still get good life out of them.
