Thinking About Gettin A 6.7

i was thinking about trading my 99 dodge in for a new 6.7. i was wondering what kind of real milage it got before any upgrades. and what it got after upgrades. is it smart to get one now or wait another year or two

wildbill 05-28-2008 07:27 AM

I would wait a year.....or 2. Gives a person a chance to see what other options will be available and finish working the bugs out. Should have the 1/2 ton diesels out by then to.

xzaq103 05-28-2008 09:04 AM

I would get an 04.5 or 05 if i was going to get a 3rd gen.

biged681985 05-30-2008 09:20 PM

does anyone that ones one have any insight on getting a new 6.7. im thinking about getting a new one because of the waranty and me being the only one that owned it so i dont have the same problem i have with mine

BLACK_06POWERSTROKE 05-31-2008 12:13 AM

the only thing i would worry about would be all the emissions garbage those new trucks have on them. it really puts a stranglehold on them, mileage is not even close to what the older trucks got either. i work with a guy that bought an 08 an he said hes doin really good if he gets 15mpg.

Buckshotmckee 05-31-2008 12:18 AM

From what I've heard, if you use the truck to do what it is designed for, work, the emissions stuff is fine. If your using the truck as a grocery getter or around town putter, that's were the emissions start causing problems. Putin the truck around town isn't sufficient to activate the re-gen mode. You have to drive the trucks hard in order to get them to re-gen. Or you could always bypass the particulate filter? I understand there are kits available?

And our state does not check this kinda stuff.

Except for the emissions junk, the 6.7 looks like another great motor from Cummins. But I would agree with the rest of these guys (get a 3rd Gen CR)

biged681985 05-31-2008 08:17 PM

i went and test drove one today. it was the most comfortable ride i have been in in awhile. my dad went with me and he said if he was working still he would trade in moms minivan in on one. i figured up the current milage and even with it only getting 14 and my current one when it was running was getting 21 on the highway i would be coming out ahead 10 bucks and that is with the 2.99 incentive they have. and once the warranty runs out i would pull all the emissions crap out of it.

BLACK_06POWERSTROKE 05-31-2008 11:28 PM

be carefull with the 2.99 gimmick i was watching one of those dodge commercials the other night and brealy caught a glimpse of the fine print and it said offer not valid on charger, srt, and it looked like it possibly said on diesels as well but im not 100% sure about that just make sure before you put your name on the dotted line:U:

my bad i meant to say challenger not charger

I'm loving mine so far. No issues to report after 3 months. In town mileage stinks but towing and hwy mileage is about the same as my 07 5.9 got...

i have a 2007.5 cummins 6.7. i have 42,000 on it not any problems yet. i added the edge with attitude at 20,000 it was all i needed plenty of extra power and extra fuel mileage. they said i would need it before i put my delete kit on it so it would delete the codes. it has a 6 speed with 4:10 gears. the take off isnt that great but through 4th 5th and 6th it will fly

94Matt 07-31-2008 10:45 PM

Take the emission stuff off if you can. If you're going to be doing much empty city driving, I'd think you would really need to take the stuff off. Went from an 06 to this 08, no regrets whatsoever.

BigMike75 08-20-2008 09:35 PM

Just curious, but does anybody know what the fine is for deleting a DPF?:humm:

This is for the $2.99 gas/fuel guarantee.

I have a 2008 Mega cab bought in Nov 2007 new. I bought the truck to pull my 5 er which I was pulling with a 6L chevy before. Had a h*** of a time with gas stations and millage 7 to 8MPG with the 5er attached. My 6.7L Cummins will never see the mileage my sons 5.9L sees but the mileage is better then my 2500 gaser, so why complain. I have tracked my mileage from day one on an excel spread sheet, I have seen a steady increase as the truck has increased in mileage. I now have 11k on the odometer with 12.2 (hand cacluated)mpg in town. I am happy with the truck and pulling a 5er you could not ask for a better tow vehicle a EB is standard and I run this all the time. I have had only one code thrown and this was on a -30 F night (my fault did not let the engine warm up before a got on the expressway) See my sig for my mods not many.
