Unplugging EGR???
 

Hello all,
I have a 2011 Ram 3500 Laramie dually. I've read on other threads stating that unpluggin the EGR is a great thing to do until an EGR delete is performed. I tried this last night and it ran well for a couple of minutes, but then immediately went into limp mode where my truck lost power and gave a low rumbling sound. So, I plugged the EGR back in and it is running without any limp mode issues. Will you all please let me know if there is something else I'm supposed to do besides just unplugging the EGR? I definitely do want this disabled until I can do the delete, if I'm able to with no running issues. Thank you all for your time.

If you unplug it while you still have a dpf, you'll pack off the filter and will have to replace it

I was not aware of that. I thought the DPF still would go through regeneration cycles even with the EGR unplugged. It would still get packed?

Yes because you would be cycling raw exhaust fumes through it. Happened to me a few months ago, I ignored my egr code because I was fixing to do my deletes, drove from Texas to Va and the dpf packed off 100 miles from home.

If you're going to do all the deletes, I'd highly recommend deleting your cats too. Much better flow and it really gives that cummins sound. I bought my delete pipes from earl's superstore on line and I was really happy with pricing and products. I'm running a mini maxx, but shop around to find the delete-capable tuner that you like.

Like stated previously you'll need the EGR working to keep the DPF living a healthy life, both parts work hand in hand. Deleting the DPF and the EGR will simplify the truck and allow for better efficiency and reliability.
