Random black smoke stock truck
Hey guys so the other day I noticed a cloud of black smoke behind me while I'm driving on the highway it lasts about 10 seconds and goes away for 20 or so miles. Seems like if I'm idling for awhile and I get on it it just dumps black smoke. It has a tiny surge to it when it happens. BTW truck is all stock and is an 07 6.7 megacab drw.
I just changed the oil, fuel, and air filter also cleaned the MAF and did a ccv delete. |
Probly just that dpf cleaning out once in awhile.

Here is a video... its smoking a LOT now..

You may have an issue with the dpf system, you need to get that looked at.
It may be plugged, needs removed and baked out. When was the last time the dpf went through a regen cycle? as for the surge, it sounds like the dpf system may be full and about to put the motor into a limp mode. |
Can you undo the CCV delete and see if it goes away? How many miles are on the truck?
|
I've never seen it go into a regen. Its never had any kind of warnings or anything. I plan on getting a new ccv filter and change it back. The truck has 185k on it.

Sounds like a cracked dpf my buddies kinda did this
|
That's what I'm thinking. But why does a crack cause it to have lots of smoke?
|
Because the fuel injected into the dpf is getting past the filtering material. But if you've never noticed the dpf doing a regen, i'm willing to say the filter needs cleaned or the filter is shot.
You should also think about a dpf delete, depending on the emmisions regs in your county and state. |
That's what I figured. I'm in Alabama so no emissions. I already ordered an egr and dpf delete with a Smarty Jr tuner. Hoping it will fix it so I can start loving my truck again.
