We have a few people near to us reporting back with some positive results using the Superchips Flashpaq. No it doesn't have adjustability on the fly and some of the other bells and whistles, but for the cost, it really does have a lot of bang for your buck :U:

I know that Spartan is not a sponsor here, but he has had some excellent feedback from people when they have purchased the DPF delete and some custom tunes.

Whatever route you go, the best answer is a DPF delete kit. The DPF regen cycle is what is killing your mileage.

Diesel Dawgs Performance 10-27-2008 02:43 PM

Innovative Diesel SCT Livewire :U:

HI 2500HeavyDuty, I don't want to lose my 5 year/ 100,000 mile warranty, I also heard that if you remove the DPF, you will throw a code.:ouch:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

THANK YOU ALL, for the advice, I'm looking for the MOST MPG I can get !!! the factory HP and TQ, is more than I really need, I don't TOW, PULL, or RACE !!! I use this truck like a car, I also heard that PROGRAMMERS and CHIPS will clog the DPF ????

2500HeavyDuty 10-27-2008 11:31 PM

banks say they wont clog the dpf, they say thier tune is better at controlling smoke than stock

gunman41mag 10-28-2008 10:02 AM

I will call BANKS and ask a bunch of questions !!!!

SPARTAN'S programmer gives you like 250 HP and cost over $1,000 OUCH I can't afford that !!!!

WILL GET INFO ON superchips & SCT

Your mileage WILL NOT go up with any tuner unless you remove the dpf. All you will do is force it to go into regen more often which will cause you mileage to be even worse. Plus puting on a tuner will void your warranty even if you leave the dpf on. They leave a foot print that the dealer can see. The Spartan Phalanx is the only tuner (so far) not leaving a foot print. At least that is what I am hearing from guys who have had theirs in the shop, and Spartan as well. I think that a Ford rep can tell if they look deep enough but it cant be found at the dealer level. Either love your Ford the way it is or take a chance with the warranty.

HI JMART, My 2008 F250 only has 241 miles, only had 6 days, but the computer is telling me that I'm getting only 9.2 MPG WTF, my 1999 F250 was giving me 15.5 to 19 MPG, and I wanted MORE !!!! I called FORD dealer and they told me it will get better, they say about 11 to 12 THAT SUCKS !!!!! I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT A DODGE with a CUMMINS !!!!!:madd:

2500HeavyDuty 10-29-2008 06:57 PM

I seen a spartan tuned lifted cc/sb F-250 run a 13.2 in the quater with the spartan 275 tune :f:

YMMOT 10-29-2008 09:31 PM

The new 6.7 Cummins isn't all that much better. The LMM Duramax is a little better. the regen on all these new diesels is what is killing the mileage.

I almost bought the DODGE, But liked the FORD body better, and I was told the FORD frame is stronger, FORD interior looks better. But I want more MPG !!!

JMart 10-30-2008 06:16 PM

I was getting about 11-12 average mostly city driving w/ 35 x12.5 Mudgraplers.

The only guy I talked to that got better mpg without a warranty issue put a topper on his truck. It didnt go up much maybe 1-2 mpg. And YMMOT is right the Cummins isnt getting much better. My brother has an 08 6.7 and averages 16-17 mostly highway with the skinny a$$ 17's they put on there stock. And he has a perma check engine light that Dodge cant figure out.

I wish there was something else I could tell you, but it looks like you just might have to get used to it. Maybe when that warranty runs out you can come over to the dark side.

And that lifted 6.4 has 10'' of lift on 38" tires. Its a daily driver work truck that also won the work stock class sled pull the same day it ran 13.2 at the diesel nats in Houston.

That is the second one that I know of that has the forever check engine light.

A tuner software that does away with the regen and deleteing the DPF is THE only way you are going to get the mileage you want.

The frame on the 08 trucks is almost as stout as the 04 F450 frame. So yes, the ford frame is stronger. You also have to realize that the Ford is about the heaviest truck out there. Same cab config in Dodge and GM/Chevy is lighter. Heavier = hurting fuel economy.

In MIAMI, FLORIDA we don't have emission testing on cars or trucks !!! If I wouldn't lose my 5 years/100,000 miles warranty I would have pulled all that junk off by now !!!!

YMMOT 10-31-2008 10:50 AM

Ok... just was letting you know that any of the programmers out there will be a waste to purchase for economy unless you do away with the DPF and the Regen cycles. So if you don't want to do those two, then save your money until you are ready to do away with them.

HI YMMOT, I thank you for the advice, I want to remove all that junk, BUT I don't want to lose my warranty, I don't know how good these 6.4PSD are ???? I don't want it to break, AND I get stuck with the BILL !!!!

JMart 10-31-2008 12:14 PM

I felt the same way. But In 5 years when my warranty runs out I probably wont have 40k on it. If this thing breaks in under 40k I will drive it through the front door of Ford Motor Company. :bat:

gunman41mag 10-31-2008 01:11 PM

When the warranty runs out, I will remove the DPF WITH MY OWN HANDS, I'm going to rip it out !!!!

YMMOT 10-31-2008 11:27 PM

I absolutely hear ya. I was just letting you know that you might as well just save yourself the money and wait in that case.

gunman41mag 11-01-2008 10:25 AM

I will keep on finding info, to get the best MPG possible !!!

srrandall1 11-02-2008 09:59 AM

Programmer or Chip for MPG

I live here in south FL and have an 08 F250 lifted 8" with 37's and 20" wheels. Took the doc and dpf off at 5K miles and replaced it with a 4" powersroker67 straight pipe and 4" MRBP ss exhaust. Also have AFE #7 CIA and Spartan tuner 250 and 275 tunes. Stock mpgs 10-12 at best with the tune and a few mods including lift and tires 16 in town and 21-22 on the road at 70-75 mph. 21000 miles on the the truck and love the power and ride of the F250. Dump that dpf and tune it IMO you can always put it back to stock in 1-2 hours and take it in for service if you need to. Good luck hope this helps you make a good choice on what to do.

gunman41mag 11-02-2008 05:18 PM

HI srrandall1, WELCOME TO DIESEL BOMBERS, THANK YOU for the advice, I live in MIAMI, in the KENDALL area, My 2008 F250 is 4X2 so I won't have to lift it, BUT I do have alot of questions to ask you, I will send you a private message !!!

stud08 12-01-2008 10:04 AM

go to sctflash.com get the phone number and call them they gave me good advice with their programers good luck. oh im already runing the edge juiced extreme and on stages 2 and 3 i get about 3-7 better mpg i herd that adding fords diesel suplement will increase mpg 2-3 . good luck

toy4xchris 02-20-2009 11:48 PM

I got the Ts Mp-8 installed on mine last week I had high hopes for improvement made a couple hundred mile drive over the weekend I was doing 75-80 and got 12.2mpg by my math the console said 14.2mpg which was about 1mpg better than it usually says for highway I need to make sure the dealer really did reset it for the bigger tires and rims.

Diesel Dawgs Performance 02-21-2009 12:03 AM

I prefer the SCT Livewire.

SPEAKSUP 02-21-2009 03:22 AM

If you don't want to remove the DPF then go with a Superchips Baks or Edge.

You can unplug your EGR just like the rest of them. This will really help out in the MPG department theres a guy on CF making in the 20's with just the EGR and a Superchips.

I'm pretty sue the 6.4 is the same way if they say anything plug your EGR back in.

Barefoot40 02-27-2009 10:29 PM

I put a call into Banks yesterday, The tech guy that I spoke to was not aware of any deal with Ford regarding warantee coverage. Wish there was. anyway, he indicated that the tuner for the 6.4 should be out in Mid March.
