DPF/CAT delete pipe vs DP-back exhaust
I am planning on doing a DPF/CAT delete on my 6.4, and am currently considering just going with the DPF/CAT delete pipe instead of a whole exhaust. My main reason is I don't want the truck to be a dead giveaway that it has anything done to it in case they do start cracking down on deleted trucks. It really seems like until I do a downpipe, there isn't going to be much gain from doing a DP-back exhaust over a delete pipe. I don't plan on racing, pulling, or racing this truck in the near future, just using it for working around the farm and hauling. I would consider replacing the DP, but it still has a little over a year left of the 7/200k dieselcare warranty that I don't want to ruin with an aftermarket DP.

I'm thinking of doing the same thing with my truck, maybe do a EGR/delete also

You will not notice any performance difference in delete pipe vs do back, biggest difference will be sound. I would recommend the EGR delete also as mentioned above

I'll definitely tune out the EGR to begin with, probably plate it once the warranty runs out just to be safe if I have to take it in for work. I listened to some clips of the delete pipe on a stock exhaust and two friends with 6.4s have 1) 4" Flo Pro straight piped DP-back, 2) Diamond Eye 5" turbo back (4inch downpipe) straight piped, and I really don't like the sound of the 4" DP back. The youtube clips of the delete pipe actually don't sound too bad, not much whistle, but they didn't sound as much like an angry hair drier as the 4"DP back does...

I prefer turbo back.....

That would be my first choice, but the truck still has the extended warranty on it, so I want something that is easy to convert back to stock if it needs to go to the dealer for warranty work on the engine, but once that's done, I definitely will consider turbo-back.

So is mine lol....Its still under factory warranty

my warranty will be over on 10/23/2013, then I'll start the DPF/EGR delete:humm:

I never had any issues with my exhaust setups and warranty at all, UNTIL, I put stacks on. It was like a sign for them to give me crap about my exhaust and it must be modded and this and that...
Funny story... I actually had a flex plate break in my truck. Brought it in, obviously wouldn't start. The service guy called me (this is after I explained that the starter wasn't grabbing on anything) and asked me if there was something special to starting the truck. I said no, why? Well I saw the stacks on there and wasn't sure if you had done something special to get it started. Really? :argh: |
You won't see a difference in power. I am just doing a cat/DPF delete with H&S. I'll block off EGR after warranty. Shiney fancy SS tips on a black exhaust can call attention where it is not needed.
