http://images.dieselpowermag.com/fea..._side_view.jpgX-TREME TOYZ WAS STARTED EIGHT YEARS AGO AS A "LOW-PROFILE" COMPANY that would design trucks forthe annual SEMA show in Las Vegas, Nevada. It wasn't long before the company's down-low status had to be abandoned when CEO Mike Duval started getting flooded with requests for one-off parts once his customized trucks went on display. Now, he's been building wild project trucks for eight years, and here is his latest transformer: the Shaker 4x450.
SUPER SINGLE REAR WHEEL CONVERSION
Your eyes are not deceiving you, the Shaker has only four wheels, even though it started out as a F-450 dualie. At each corner of the Super Duty, you'll find a giant Toyo 40 x 15.50 R22 M/T Open Country mud tire wrapped around chrome 22x9-inch (front) and 22x12.25-inch (rear) American Force wheels.
FABTECH LIFT AND FAB FOURS BUMPERS
To get the big tires to fit, the F-450 was raised with a 10-inch Fabtech suspension lift and a Dirt Logic 4.0 shock kit with remote reservoirs in front and dual2.25-inch shocks in the rear. The suspension gets additional control from an X-Treme Toyz front sway bar system. The front and rear of the truck areprotected by the 3/16-inch steel of Fab Fours off-road bumpers.
AFE INTAKE AND BANKS SIX-GUN POWER
Power to move the big off-road tires comes from the brand-new 6.4L Power Stroke that has an easy time sucking air into the compound turbos, thanks to ahigh-flowing AFE cold-air intake. Output from the International-built engine is upgraded through the use of a Banks Six Gun programmer system with thePower PDA display and is combined with Banks' vented exhaust tips that are designed specifically for the '08 Super Duty.
MATRIX PAINT AND POWERED STEPS
Sitting on 22-inch wheels and 10 inches of lift, there was no way the Shaker could roll around wearing factory paint, so a Matrix red-on-black theme was designed with orange flames and blue highlights ripping through the background colors. Powered electric steps by AMP Research were also added to the running boards and rear bumper to catch any eyes not snagged by the wild paint scheme.
AUDIO, VIDEO, AND MASSAGING LEATHER SEATS
Inside the 4x450 is everything you'd expect to find in a truck bound for the SEMA show. That's a Kenwood DVD navigation where the factory unit used to be, and it's complemented by widescreen LCD displays mounted in the front seat headrests. The Ford upholstery was abandoned in favor of Roadwire custom leather seats with red suede inserts and Seat Comfort Systems massagers.
THULE BIKE RACK AND SLIDING CARGO FLOOR
The pickup bed was converted into a home for carbon-fiber Cannondale mountain bikes with the installation of a Thule Xporter bike rack system. Compressed air lines and other bike repair gear are stored in a Transfer Flow locking cargo box and 30-gallon auxiliary fuel tank. Two Powertanks full of CO2 are mounted on each side of the sliding cargo bed that holds the spare wheel in place with a Fabtech mounting system.
THE "ICE" PHILOSOPHY
X-Treme Toyz has trucks at the SEMA show each year, but always manages to make them stand out from the pack by sticking to CEO Mike Duval's "ICE"philosophy:Imagine ... the accessory potentialof a vehicle.Create ... accessories that blendform and function.Excite ... owners about personalizingtheir vehicles. The Shaker 4x450 is a great example of this philosophy at work, with upgrades for everything from the engine and suspension to a leather-wrapped interiorand flames that cover the truck. Each of the added parts is functional, and best of all, any Super Duty owner can build his or her very own version of the Shaker.
