Do I "need" a pyro?
I want to turn the pump up on my 84, I know I should get a pyro. I dont have the money for a pyro/mount/wiring etc. My truck averages 140*F in 95*F weather, so I wouldn't think the EGT's would get too high, and I dont tow much.

i would put one on it to be safe and the old chevys run hot any way

Ah well. Who has the cheapest pyro and thermocouple etc?

is it turbo'd? If not I'd say eff it.

RS, I forgot all about that! No turbo. What is eff?
|
I meant eff as representing a word. like the verb possibly used to describe an encounter with a lady friend.
You don't need one. The pyro is usually used to check pre turbo exhaust temps to stop from melting the turbo. On higher HP apps it also has to be monitored so you don't melt the pistons. but the 6.2 pump won't flow enough for you to have to worry about that. :U: |

You''d be more concerned about engine temp than egt. If you want to be careful with it, get a good autometer (or some other brand) temp gauge and watch it. Your right that you can warp the heads, and on the IDI motors it isn't hard to do, because the heads create so much heat.
