turbo swap

I'm just wondering if i could swap a different turbo into my truck i've got a 95 6.5. I was wondering if it would really be worth the money and how much power it could make. I've heard you cant do anything unless you swap different pistons in to lower the compression so i figured i might have to spend lots of $$$ i jus wanna get some smoke rollin and roast the tires lol.

they have A Team Turbos that are very popular for the 6.5 or you could swap in a HX-35 from a cummins, that is also a popular option. i would start with new marine injectors or a programmer from Heath, SS Diesel, or kennedy diesel for some real power

I've been doing my research and i think i may do the hx 35 swap. I've got some questions tho. First what intercooler should I use? How do i control the wastegate on this turbo and how much boost will a 6.5 take with the 18:1 compression pistons?

hey guys

im actually going to do the HX 35w swap too, there is alot of size difference between the stock turbo and the hx35w. im also running a front mount, its a decent size ill put a pic up tomorrow of it. im running 15 psi through my motor everything is stock besides the front mount and 4" turbo back exhaust and it chirps 2nds with 22's haha i get a few funny looks!:rocking:

lol ya i would imagine try havin an 8 inch stack lol I get ppl all the time that roll down there window and stick there head out to look at it

6.5's usually are good running 16-17 PSI Max. the 18-1 compression pistons will really help putting more boost in the engine. 6.5 isnt a engine that runs a lot of boost so if you really want to push it get some ARP studs and some heavy duty gaskets. that will insure you wont blow your heads off then engine

Get a chip and you will see a big difference. Yes there are about 5 different turbos that will work great.:U:

I asked RSWORDS if it was okay to post a link, we concluded it was okay to post it; were it not for the volume of material involved I'd post the meat and taters of it, and start a new thread here, this is probably the most viewed post in all 6.5 forums out there: 16,300 views at current count.

Above was made mention of the ATT or A Team turbo, me and a buddy decided to go out on a limb and try out a Mitsubishi TD07-22A it worked so well my buddy found a vendor that could duplicate it, details of it are here: Replacement turbo - DieselTowingResource.com

I have most miles on one out there, I commute 1000 miles about every other weekend, so have about 20K so far on mine, my range running mostly 2100-2300 rpm, has gone from 375 miles on a 26 gal tank, to 445 miles packed full to empty (I know this as I ran out of fuel this morning at 445 miles)
