best ways to get better mgg?
Looking for upgrades for better mpg for my 95 gmc 1500. any suggestions?
|
Well you could start with better air filtration, and better flowing exhaust system, keep your tires at proper pressure, light on the throttle and slower speed, synthetic fluids, and possibly a gear vendors over/under drive unit to split the gears. Maybe a programmer would help. What do you have for mods now, if any? How is your truck set up now. WHat rear gear ratio do you have? Auto or manual?

no motor mods, it has 483000kms on it, 6'' lift 33s, auto, 3.73 gears

Your not gonna get a much economy with a 6in lift and 33s.
You can get a diamond eye turbo back exhaust and a k47 filter box from the '97 up trucks. A better turbo will also help in the MPG area. The stock turbo is way to restrictive. Synthetic motor oil might help |
With that, your mileage increase will be subtle, but not substantial. I agree that the intake, exhaust, and turbo upgrade will do more for the increase, coupled with driving like one-eyed old lady, you may get up to about 2 mpg increase. Your gear ratio is acceptable as it is not the 4.10 ratio. But now the question arises, can you justify the cost of the upgrades for the increase in MPG? If It were me, I would do it. Im always in pursuit of better mileage. Im not sure what a turbo upgrade costs for your type of rig. THey can get rather pricey, but that depends on what you really want.
