headstuds?
I have been told by a few individuals you can put headstuds in your truck by simply pulling the bolts out one at a time and replace them with a stud as you go I find this hard to belive can anyone give me some insight on this please
|
I can't say for sure either way, but I would not trust that method...
|
it would probably still stay seated. for best results of course you're gonna want to install new gaskets but if your on a tight budget you could probably get away with your method
|
I dont no if thats true, but i do no its pointless to do headstuds unless u have ur heads decked to make sure their flat. Without that done ur still gonna blow headgaskets.
|
if they stay seated you don't need to because its seated already. once you take them off you should so the surfaces seat properly

I've heard of a couple people doing this and even one member from another site who did this AFTER he started puking and it stopped.
Me personally, there is no way I'd even waste my time putting headstuds in without taking the heads off and having them decked.... coming from a guy who has blown 3 sets of headgaskets, once with ARP's installed by the dealer. :pca1: |
How about in my case where I know the heads and gaskets are still good, no signs whatsoever of a failure. I just want to start making a little more power and add reliability. What are the torque specs for ingoing studs?
|
Some 7.3 guys do that, one stud at a time...
If I had a 6.0 I think I'd be replacing the gasket though. |

Some shops do headstuds with the cab still on the truck, thats how strictly did mine. But like Mdub said its a waste of time unless u have ur heads decked. It doesnt matter if u ever had a head gasket problem or not, ur heads could still not be flat. I never blew a head gasket before but when my heads were checked by the machine shop guess what? they needed decked.

I think 125ft lbs... But It will say on the instructions when you buy the studs to verify.

I agree on having everything done right the first time. If the sole on your boot fell off, you wouldn't just put new shoe laces in them. Everything is a process. I have seen allot of heads with minor surface cracks, cracks by the injector cups, warping etc and you would never really know it until failure. Spend once, cry once.
